EA Sports' blockbuster football series makes its second appearance on the PlayStation 3 with Madden NFL 08. Focusing on "weapons," in game events, and features from previous titles, Madden NFL 08 offers gamers another chance to create a dream season alone or in multiplayer competitions. The "weapons" concept is back, and gamers can now locate dangerous players by reading weekly scouting reports, watching player introductions, and by using trigger buttons before the snap on the field. There are a total of 24 different "weapons" and they include big hitters, defensive linemen, running backs, and catch receivers. Each "weapon" has a counter-weapon that gamers must uncover in order to bring a potentially destructive competitor down. However, by completing the mini-games in "Franchise" or "Owner" mode, players can alter the attributes for each team member.<br><br>On the field, a number of events return including hurdles, player celebrations, and defensive hot routes. Now when a competitor is gearing up to lunge for the legs of the ball carrier, gamers can hurdle over them and avoid going down. After jumping over his adversary, the carrier can then make his way to the end zone for a touchdown and a celebration animation. Gamers can select from 60 different signature moves including Chad Johnson's "River Dance," Rex Grossman's "Gator Chomp," and Dante Hall's "X." In the trophy room, players can revisit victories by viewing awards for rushing and passing records and multiplayer competitions. Additionally, gamers can now create different rings to earn as they progress through the game.

    One of the Best to Date, but can be Improved Upon

    The past couple next-gen versions of Madden have been basically the same game just with roster updates. This is not the case with Madden 08. Fantasy draft is back and trophy case has been added. But, a very noticeable difference from the Xbox 360 version of this game and the PS3 version is the FPS, or Frames Per Second. Madden 08 runs at 60 frames per second on the Xbox 360 and 30 frames per second on the PlayStation 3. There have been many complaints that the PS3 version and PS2 version are the exact same thing. The game is not as smooth as most would like on the PS3 but it is still a great game. Also, because of the new animation system, you are no longer locked into animations and you have more control over your players. Features of the new animation system include mid-air collisions, ...

    Madden 08

    I am the type of madden player who buys it about every 2-4 years and it was time with the ps3. Game play is good, lots of new features from the last one i had (06, 07?). Theres still a lot of features i am still learning. Graphics are pretty good as well. One thing i have noticed is that there are a lot of fumbles, and its hard to tell that you even fumbled the ball. I definitely cover the ball a lot more, and that seems to help a little. But if you get hit while your juking with the right stick you are almost guaranteed a fumble. A little annoying. All in all it is a good game.

    Steady Franchise

    It seems like EA is having a more difficult time figuring out what to change every year with this game. There are a few changes, none of which are groundbreaking. That being said, the Madden franchise continues to put out a reliable, fun, quality product. My rankings: Playability: 9/10 Graphics: 8/10 Controls: 8.5/10 Audio: 8/10 Overall, it is a great game to play with a group of friends during football season. If you are a fan of the Madden series, you will not be disappointed with this entry, either! I would recommend this game to football fans of all ages!

    **Madden NFL '08 Awesome Game/Review**

    By this point, you’ve probably read countless articles on TeamXbox and other gaming sites talking about how the first few next-gen Madden titles didn’t [insert tired football analogy here]. It’s not like the games were bad or anything, it was just that they weren’t up to our lofty expectations. Before out first demo of this year’s game, many of my fellow editors and I were all ready to dump a cooler full of Haterade on it. However, even at that early stage, we had a feeling that we were finally seeing the game that we had been waiting on for 3 years.
