A great deal for New Cars
Savory for the taste. If you are a true Cars fan (and don't think that either Rick O. or S. Colbert are god) than this is the album for you. It fills the void of the live Cars greatest hits album that never was. Todd Rundgren's vocals are a near prefict substitute for the obstinately absent Ricky O. Perhaps the two Todd songs added to the play list could have been more "Cars like" in their sound. Something from his Utopia days could have spotlighted the talents of co-group member Kasim Sulton who joined The New Cars in this effort. The three studio tracks on the album show the strong influence which Rundgren brings to any project he puts his hands on. (ie. The New Cars It's Alive CD 2006
I love the CD. The song "Not Tonight" is a cute song and every man should hear it. The rock music is melodic and the band has strong replacement musicians. Todd Rundgren fills the shoes of Ric Ocasek quite well and is a strong guitar player. May Ben Orr rest in peace, but Kasim Sulton thumps that bass and sings "Drive" quite nicely. David Robinson said that he didn't want to return, because he was running a restaurant these days and just doesn't have the time. -Order up! Prarie Prince was Journey's original drummer and was also the drummer for The Tubes. Todd Rundgren's voice has deepened considerably with age. He sounds like David Byrne of Talking Heads,which in turn, sounds a lot like Ric Ocasek. Greg Hawkes, the keyboardist actually sings a ... I love the CD. My favorite 2 songs are "Not Tonight and "Let's Go", but the entire CD is good. TR brings some of his own songs to the CD, like "I Saw The Light". If you are a Cars fan or even a fan of 70s and 80s melodic rock, the cost of this CD new or used is some very cheap (inexpensive) entertainment. The novelty factor alone makes it worthwhile.

I actually went to the concert first and was not really sure what to expect. I had heard that they were going to do all the original Cars songs with Todd Rundgren singing lead vocals. I have always been a Todd Rungren finatic (as most of the crowd I talked to). There were a lot of older crowd mixed with some younger crowd. I must say, I was surprised at the perfect choice for the vocals. I never felt it was Todd singing Cars songs. It was similar to the Cars sound, but with new driving energy taht Todd and Kasim really add. The new songs had a bit more of a Todd signature to them, but also influenced by the rest of the band. I picked up the CD and was very pleased to hear that energy comes though too. It may be a little retro to some of the younger crowd, or a refreshing style they ...
