A classic story of growing up and apart.
When it was first released to movie theaters back in 1986, the Rob Reiner film "Stand By Me" became an instant cinematic classic. Taking place during the summer of 1959 in a small town called Castle Rock, Oregon, the film tells the story of 4 young boys who are also good friends together. On the final weekend of summer vacation before their return to school, they decide to go out and search for another young boy who was tragically killed while picking berries. The quartet consists of "Tough Guy" Chris (River Phoenix) "Eccentric" Teddy (Corey Feldman), "Quiet" Gordie (Wil Wheaton) and "Scardy-Cat" Vern (Jerry O'Connell), who have one unforgettable adventure while searching for the deceased boy. The film is told through the recollections of the main character, Gordie LaChance, a freelance ... The film contrasts the four main characters, who are depicted as well-meaning and relatively virtuous, with a gang of bullies called the "Cobras", who are led by local hood John "Ace" Merrill (brilliantly portrayed by Kiefer Sutherland). In addition to the fine story and the memorable characters, the film also boasts a great soundtrack consisting of several classic early rock and roll oldies, which are presented at various points of the film. One of the most enduring "coming-of-age" stories to ever grace the big screen, "Stand By Me" is a classic cinematic experience.

My review as a teen buddy of Stephen King
I am sure Stephen King wrote about me as Vern (the heavier kid) in the movie. In real life Stephen and I first met in the seventh grade and had every class together with him for the next six years with the exception of just two classes... We chummed around during lunches. In our town there was a smaller auto junk yard ,,, and Runaround Pond where there were some leaches as I recall. There were tales of a three foot pickerel (like a Northern Pike) in the Pond which was more like a small meandering river. Mt father almost caught one but it was so strong, it very easily snapped the line. The train tracks ran parallel to the Androscoggin River and did not cross the river, altho the car bridge did fo accross. I loved the movie, because it reminded me so much of out great childhood ... I am sure Stephen King wrote about me as Vern (the heavier kid) in the movie. Great coming of age story set in the late 50's
Excellent coming of age story set in the 50's. Some actors getting started in the business inlcude River Phoenix, Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connell, John Cusak, also starring Richard Dryfuss who narrates the show.

Based on Stephen King
Stand By Me deals with growing up, mortality and freiendships. And it does so in mature, sophisticated ways. Plus, the turns from the actors playing the four friends don't hurt at all. Well worth the watch.

I love this movie and always have. I wanted to add it to the VHS collection I have going , mostly bought from ebay. I am buying movies that are hard to find in the store , and movies that I can buy cheap on ebay. Movie is great, its a classic story of boys being boys . A tale of young kids having a wonderful adventure and stars great child actors like will wheaton, cory feldman, river phoneix and more .I love this movie and always have. I wanted to add it to the VHS collection I have going , mostly bought from ebay. I am buying movies that are hard to find in the store , and movies that I can buy cheap on ebay. Movie is great, its a classic story of boys being boys . A tale of young kids having a wonderful adventure and stars great child actors like will wheaton, cory feldman, river phoneix and more .
