Product Information

David Mamet wrote this screenplay under the name Richard Weisz, as a gun for hire, much like the masterless samurai of the film's title, who roamed Japan in the 19th Century, loyal only to themselves. A group of men with highly developed skills are called to a meeting in a deserted warehouse in Paris. Sam (Robert De Niro), an American, may be ex-CIA. Vincent (Jean Reno), the terminally cool Frenchman, is a mystery. Russian computer whiz Gregor (Stellan Skarsgaard) is presumably ex-KGB, and Spence (Sean Bean), a British demolitions man, and Larry (Skipp Suddith), another Yank, round out the team. They've been hired by the IRA, through liaison Deirdre (Natascha McElhone), to steal a briefcase of unknown contents somewhere in Europe. As the unit races from one spectacular location on the French Riviera to another, the body count mounts, some Russian gangsters get into the act, and the betrayals come fast and furious. In a rare comic moment, Sam stitches up his own bullet wound, and asks a friend to finish before he passes out. RONIN features an exceptional cast, sumptuous locations, and the kind of realistic car chases and action scenes that one expects from a director of John Frankenheimer's skills.

Excellent film, must see!
I already own a copy of this DVD bu6t wanted to upgrade to the 2 Disc version. This is one of my favorite films, Robert DeNiro is amazing as always, and Jean Reno gives his usual stellar performance. They manage to take the history of the Ronin and apply it to a modern setting so perfectly, even devoting a portion of the film itself to speak of the legendary 47 Ronin. The ending leaves you with questions, but in a good way, and the openness leaves room for a possible sequel, which I would love to see. I adore this film so much I took my wrestling name from this film, I highly recommend this to everyone. Still running COOL, TILL PayDAY
VERY in-TENS ACTION THRU ALL FILM' TIMING. DIRECTION VERY GOOOD. DE NIRO HOLDS the SUBJECT SOFTLY but FIRM. CAST - EXELELENT. SCRIPT GOOD with SPARKS of REAL HUMOR. CAMERA COOD. Ronin--Reno & DeNiro & the Best Car Chase ever
So if you dont know already, then here it is: this movie features the greatest car chase sequence captured on film. Subjective you say?? Fact: The 10+ min car chase scene used over 200+ professional stunt drivers: a record for a movie. This film has action, terrific story and of course DeNiro. Although the movie keeps you interested throughout the ending is a bit underwhelming and lacks punch. Perhaps thats why this movie is a notch below a similar action-thriller starring DeNiro==Heat.So if you dont know already, then here it is: this movie features the greatest car chase sequence captured on film. Non stop entertainment
This movie has all the elements of a great movie. The international intrigue and plot involve an Ex-CIA operative working with a IRA faction. Robert DeNiro is awesome One of the best.
