    Study of Congo (Zaire)

    I have just used this book for a course in African Politics at a small liberal arts college in PA. The book itself is fairly easy to read, but I suggest having some prior knowledge or wikipedia handy. I am not a fan of using wiki for most information needs, but it may help to have some kind of quick reference on hand to facilitate reading. A lot more of the book made sense to me after we had discussed timelines and name-changes in class. (Hence the name for this review, as the country's name has changed to Congo after being Zaire, and there are two countries with 'Congo' in their names.) There was one chapter that did not make sense to me (about music and fashion fads while people are starbing to death) but it may be interesting to others. I suggest reading the book in one sitting rather ...
