Picture quality is awesome and very user friendly!!
I bought this after my Olympus drowned in the lake.I have owned a couple Kodak's and a Canon.I bought this HX5V Cybershot specifically for the 10xzoom and the panorama sweep features.My Kodak I also bought because of same reasons but,the zoom was a little better the panorama was ok.Every camera I've owned has had there own little feature I liked about it.So there is no real"favorite"...I was skeptical about Sony but,after days of reading reviews etc.I'm glad I tried them out!!!..What I love the most is the quality/clarity of the pictures!!Also very good pictures with night/shade/dark lights!!!You can take a picture of something and try all the different features and pretty much get a different shade/color picture in all!! ...I would give this 5 stars but,the only down fall for me is the ... And it's a great camera, among the best we've seen this year in the item picture quality. Lensor with 10 megapixel and optical lens with 10x zoom (25mm to 250mm), the DSC-HX5V captured some of the best-ranked images in our subjective tests of quality, leading in points such as quality exposure and color accuracy between megazoom recently tested. Sharpness and levels of distortion were less impressive, and the quality of video got behind the Canon PowerShot SX210 IS and the Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS5-, giving the ... The function of "geotagging" (marking photos with GPS coordinates of where they were taken) works, but this function is tied to your computer. Although the DSC-HX5V automatically select the photos as they are drawn (provided you are outdoors), you need to install the Picture Motion Browser software (included) on a Windows PC and download the photos to be able to do something with this information. Drag and drop pictures to the interface Mapview in the program to indicate where they were taken. Unfortunately, there is the same convenience of GPS in real time from Samsung HZ35W. The battery life is good, with 310 pictures on one battery charge. However, if you use the DSC-HX5V with GPS enabled all the time, the autonomy will be reduced significantly. For photographers veterans missing in the Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V important features: can not really shoot in RAW, and although the camera has a full manual mode that lets you adjust the aperture and shutter speed independently, it has no priority modes. Is a camera designed for casual photographers. Still, the image quality of the DSC-HX5V, its performance in low light and innovative features are enough to enchant anyone. The Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V accepts memory cards in either SD / SDHC and Memory Stick Pro Duo (Sony propritário). You can use only one type of card at a time, since the slot inside the camera is unique. It is one of two Cyber-shot models that supports peer-to-peer with devices compatible with standard TransferJet. Older but excellent Cyber Shot
I like the HX-5v. It's compact and takes good quality pictures. It's true that 10 mp are enough for quality photos. Takes a G battery, which is easy to obtain at a decent price.

* Love the Hand held twilight mode. * Camera looks small but full of features. * Best camera around for people who take pictures in Program Auto or Scene modes like twilight. * iSweep panorama takes wonderful smooth pictures. * 10X zoom is powerful and you get to use the zoom while recording video. * Although I use the 720p mode all the time to record video (for the file size factor), the 1080p/60i is very clear and smooth. * The only problem I could think of is when you look very closely, sometimes in average lighting, pictures tend to be somewhat smooth but give it a good amount of light or very low light, the camera works great! I don't care about Nikon or Panasonic as they are generally over priced and don't take good close up shots unless you have an SLR. * So this Camera is the best option for a person who wants to take excellent quick photos during day or night and use full 10X zoom without blur or shake. Full worth for its price! Thank you Sony! * Note: If you are looking for even higher zoom and better lens, you have the option to buy the HX9V or HX100V. Don't buy the H70(no Exmor R CMOS sensor i.e. no low light sensor) or HX7V - it is no better than the 5V except the price and megapixel rating (which is of no use).

Well nothing is offcourse, there is a trade off... - I used to like having more manual control, i do realize that this camera actually takes better pictures automatically then I ever did fidgeting about, but still I miss being able to if I wanted it... - Pictures are clearly soft and since you can't change much manually you can't change sharpening, they're nice enough but again soft. This is true of many compact cameras out there, but the lens appears to be very upscale so its a pitty you can't squeeze out the inherent detail. All in all, this is clearly a new generation of camera, quite different from all others I have used (and thats many). Try one out, I'll bet you you end up buying it!
