The B-Movies That Time Forgot
I love the idea behind MGM's MIDNITE MOVIES. A double feature of those forgotten B-gems of the 50', 60's and 70's. The best thing is they are pretty cheap. I bought a bunch of them on Ebay (from MovieMagicUSA) for less than $6.00 each!!! I remember seeing THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT when I was a young teenager. Back then, there was a small chain of movie theaters in Montreal (Cinémas 5 Étoiles) that showed 5 science fiction/adventure/monster movies for a dollar! This was a time when my favorite actors were guys like Doug McClure, Rod Taylor, Jeff Chandler, and the westerns of Audie Murphy... Forgotten heroes, often dismissed as second-rate action stars when compared to the big legitimate names like John Wayne, Kirk Douglas, Burt Lancaster and other he-men of the good old days. You ... You would never even dream of seeing the great "Duke" Wayne in a movie like LAND THAT TIME FORGOT, althought his son Patrick was the star of the sequel included on the same dvd (THE PEOPLE THAT TIME FORGOT). No, this was a job for Doug McClure! He gave it his best and made you believe he was really fighting for his life against those rubber dinosaurs. I recommend this dvd for all those 40-something boys who grew up on those "classics" B-movies gems. Special effects are not as bad as you would think. In fact, the great Derek Meddings (from the James Bond movies and the Gerry Anderson sci-fi series) worked on the special effects for THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT doing a more than decent job (probably with a very dismal budget too!). Fantasy master storyteller Michael Moorcock worked on the script (based on the story from Edgar Rice Burroughs of course). Director Kevin Connor and his star Doug McClure did pretty well in the victorian sci-fi genre because they worked for 3 other movies of the same type after THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT (1975): AT THE EARTH'S CORE (1976, also based on a Edgar Rice Burroughs), THE PEOPLE THAT TIME FORGOT (1977, appropriately featured here on the same DVD), and WARLORDS OF ATLANTIS (1978). It's too bad this last movie has yet to be made available in DVD format. It would have been the perfect choice to co-feature with AT THE EARTH'S CORE on another MIDNITE MOVIES program. Instead, MGM choose to ignore the obvious match and strangely paired AT THE EARTH'S CORE with a movie weirdly similar in style and themes as WARLORDS OF ATLANTIS called WAR GODS OF THE DEEP (1965 directed by Jacques Tourneur and featuring Tab Hunter and Vincent Price)

Classic dinosaur fantasy movies
The effects are to be expected for the time (plenty of close-ups with plastic dinosaurs or lizards with horns glued on), but they don't detract at all from a very engaging adventure. The storyline is actually quite good, and the story is a fun one to follow. It is just as enjoyable as I remember as a child. You have everything you need in a movie: War enemies forced to work together, cavemen, dinosaurs, and even a few cave women in furry bikinis. Not quite cheesy enough for me to consider it a "B" movie, but no Emmy-winning epic either. Great mid 1970s “lost world”story that takes you back to your childhood.
I am a Doug Mclure fan as well as science fiction enthusiast and this movie has both!

Entertaining
"The Land That Time Forgot" is an entertaining and fun movie to watch. The sequel "The People That Time Forgot" was okay for a sequel, but I didn't find it as enjoyable as the first.

Saturday afternoon SCI/FI
The disk quality is at least as good as it was on the old 19" color TV on Saturday afternoons. These are classics. C'mon Doug McClure in an Edgar Rice Burroughs story; how classic is that. The second feature stars Michael Wayne (John's son). It too is a classic, and that fact that they are on the same disk makes for an easy Land marathon. Get it!
