Product Information

This backstage drama showcases the big band music of Glenn Miller and his orchestra, with Glenn and the boys playing "Gene Morrisson and his band". Small-town girl Connie (Anne Rutherford) falls in love with Bill Abbott (George Montgomery), a trumpet player who thinks marriage is for fools. After a stolen kiss and a night of romance, Connie and Bill get married, and Connie begins to travel with the band and the other musicians' spouses. However, the wives begin arguing during the tour and the band breaks up. Meanwhile, the marriage between Connie and Bill hits the rocks. Just as they decide to separate, Sinjin, the band's pianist, joins forces with Connie to save both the band and the marriage. In the process, she comes to understand just what it means to be a musician's wife. The film features the songs "I've Got a Gal in Kalamazoo," "At Last," and "Serenade In Blue."

This is a classic 1940s cute story about a small town girl who falls for a trumpet player in "Gene Morrison" or Glenn Miller's orchestra. She goes on the road with them after a quickie wedding and finds out how the other traveling wives really are. The Glenn Miller Orchestra has several spots including Tex Beneke and the Modernaires as well as Marion Hutton. "I've Got a Gal in Kalamazoo" was nominated for an Academy Award, but "Bugle Call Rag" is worth noting. The Nicholas Brothers have a spot feature near the end of the movie with some great dancing. See the GMO at it's finest and enjoy a cute story at the same time. Definitely one of my favorites. Great Music -- Sorry Plot
If you love Big Band music, you will love this movie. Glenn Miller and his orchestra provide their consistently great sound. The plot, like most movies of this genre, could have used some serious rewriting (boy romances girl, gets girl, loses girl, gets girl back). Having the video with the audio of performances by Glenn Miller's band makes the disc well worth having. Of particular note is the performance near the very end of the movie by the Nicholas Brothers. In many of the films in which the appeared, they only dance (the color thing). In this one they both sing and dance, and their performance -- as always -- leaves one wondering how what they did was within the realm of human possibility. Glenn Miller's orchestra is fantastic. The dance number at the end is well worth watching. Script stinks.
Glenn Miller's orchestra is fantastic. The problem is they don't appear much in this movie. The rest is a silly love story and the jealous orchestra wives. Terrible script and acting. No real story line.

Funny, holds ones interest.
Montgomery is up to par, while Ann Rutherford plays a funny and sparkling character. Absolutely lovely film. Glenn Miller reigns as King of Swing !
