Reviews
"Those vague hunches we have about this generation -- Twenge does a huge, decidedly un-GenX amount of research and replaces them with actual data. Her writing is lucid and entertaining, and she's unafraid to draw bold conclusions when necessary. It's nothing new for a generation to be misunderstood by popular and commercial culture, but the one she describes has been misdrawn to the point of absurdity; refreshing, then, to have someone swap those persistent old myths for thoughtful, careful observations." -- Chris Colin, author of "What Really Happened to the Class of '93: Start-ups, Dropouts, and Other Navigations Through an Untidy Decade", "Immensely readable.... Weiner's gift lies in her ability to create characters who both amuse us and make us care." -- "The Washington Post", "Dr. Twenge provides an insightful analysis of the young adults she labels 'GenMe' -- their supreme self-confidence in their own worth, their concern with doing things 'their way,' and the benefits and costs that come from their focus on themselves. Twenge draws upon her outstanding research to describe generational differences and their sources, lending an authority to her analysis that few previous commentators on GenMe have enjoyed." -- Susan Nolen-Hoeksema, Ph.D., professor, Yale University, and author ofWomen Who Think Too Much, "An informed, rollicking look at the epidemic narcissism, illusory optimism, and anxiety and depression of today's younger Americans. Compelling reading, "Generation Me" has all the makings of a culturally significant, major book. It's provocative. It speaks to many parents' concerns. It reveals the benefits and costs of America's radical individualism. It has the potential to be what "The Greening of America, Future Shock, " and other such books have been for previous generations. Rooted in science and rich in anecdotes, "Generation Me" is marvelously written with a sparkling humor." -- David G. Myers, author of "The American Paradox: Spiritual Hunger in an Age of Plenty", "Dr. Twenge provides an insightful analysis of the young adults she labels 'GenMe' -- their supreme self-confidence in their own worth, their concern with doing things 'their way, ' and the benefits and costs that come from their focus on themselves. • Good book to understand ourselves

I'm almost a GenMe'er as the author called, except that I'm not born in America. I read the book because of a Times article which borrowed GenMe to describe the Chinese post 80's generation--that's me. And I got interested in how the same generation in America is like, what problems are they having. I found the book not so interesting at the beginning, repeatedly speaking of some simple ideas with lots of statistics. But the later part is great, with lots of original thinking and good summary, which made me think a lot. I found we, the same generation from China and America, shared a lot of things, including a focus in ourselves, less willing to make comprimise for the sake of the family or country. We have higher expectations for ourselves though the reality to face after reaching ...

  • Generation Me

I bought this book after having a big fight with 3 of my 4 kids. They felt (and still feel) that even though they are all over 18, Mom did not have a right to her own life, and should still cater to their needs, always being available to take care of them. This book gave me insight to what their thought patterns were, because mine were vastly different. I couldn't wait to be self sufficient when I was 18, and rarely resorted to parental help. My kids, however, seemed to lack desire to cut the parental support. Having taken psychology in college, and having seen the same traits in many of my childrens friends, I felt there was something behind their attitude, rather than them just being lazy. This book not only gave me the insight I needed, it helped me realize it wasn't me being ...

  • Generation Me

I met the author of this book and she is a wonderful and delightful person, who generates enomous interest in this subject. She presented the information in a very straight forward manner, but it had too many statistic for my reading. I would recommend the book, but I give it an aveage rating.

  • About Generation Me...

It is a great book, need it for college, great ideas of the author. I like the hardcover, because it is better to carry and it last longer
