Some good moments in this latest Jim Carrey release
Jim Carrey (LIAR LIAR, THE NUMBER 23 and many more) stars in this comedy about a man who attends a seminar on how to improve the quality of your life by always saying yes, never no. Other actors in the movie include Zooey Deschanel (Bridge to Terabithia & The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and more), Veteran actor Terence Stamp (Wanted, Red Planet and many more). Stamp stars as the 'Yes Man" the man with the plan who makes Carrey commit to saying Yes. Along the way Carrey meets Deschanel who is a free spirited musician. The movie has a good premise and the acting is good. Their are some very funny parts to this movie but most of the movie is about average as far as comedies go. I rate this movie a 4 of 5 for good acting and a number of good laughs. If ... Glad To See Another Winner For A Long Time Pro!
Several movies lately just seem to strike a cord for me, and this one has to be one of those that I can totally relate to. Saying the word "YES" to everything seems to insinuate within the film that, if you just continue saying Yes to every question, you will be more happy and successful. The proof seems to be that Carl (Jim Carrey), after a split with his wife, becomes withdrawn and wants to avoid any situation in his life. This is very typical behavior for people who tend to be totally devastated in life after many unpleasant occurrences leave him squirming in social situations. Carl is soon invited by an aquaintance to attend a self-help seminar intended to change people who say No to life into people that say Yes. After seeing the results of saying Yes firsthand, ... After seeing the results of saying Yes firsthand, Carl says No a few times and finds that he seems to be cursed when he does wind up saying No, so he continues saying Yes to everything. This pays off for Carl which causes a domino effect of good fortune. The film gets extra funny since he turns from a total introvert into a totally willing and zany extrovert which gives Jim Carrey's character a chance to stage his comic charm. Carl begins to realize that indiscriminately agreeing YES to every request leads him down a path similar to his safe, yet lonely life. Carl meets Allison (Zooey Deschanel) and become his main love interest. Carl is totally cut off guard with Allison as she is open and as interesting as he dreams a mate should be. After seeing the full side of Allison, he gets past the first glance stage and develops heavy chemistry between them. It turns out, however, saying Yes all the time to her drives her to think he is totally insincere about his love towards her. The story gets really interesting when Carl's Ex-wife approaches Carl again. Carl's good friend played by Danny Masterson of THAT 70s SHOW's adds and extra nuance of situations to the mix. That last scene of film gave me a chuckle and allowed the viewer to have a feeling of resolve about leaving a good feeling with a happy ending. Carl's boss was a gas and actually made the film a bit more interesting, making us aware of how many people in our life just have problems fitting in to our particulars. Was Yes Man good? Yeah, you bet.
Jim Carrey's latest comedy is here, and you owe it to yourself to say yes and see it. Carrey, as always, is terrific, the supporting cast is really is on their game to. From the funny opening to the shocking end, Yes Man stayed funny and entertaining the whole time. PQ- Warner Brothers rarely puts out a dud, and this movie is not one of those duds. The picture is crisp, skin tones are spot on, and details brought out greatly. Take the scene where Carrey bungie jumps aff the bridge. The bungie cord, trees, and water below are all very visible, and are easily definable. The only reason it doesn't get a perfect score is because there are a couple, if very brief, night time shots that have a heavy grain look present. AQ- For the most part, the sound mix was good. During the parts with music, the bass was heavy, and all speakers had activity going at all times. There were a couple of parts that I had to turn up the volume to hear the dialogue, but I can't complain otherwise. Extras- Standard is the only work I can describe them with. You have an on the set visit, a look at the stunts with Carrey, a few music videos by Proxy, a gag reel, and some exclusives including an on the set with the original Yes Man, a look at Carrey and the Red Bull scene, an a few exclusive scenes via BD Live. Overall, Yes Man is a terrific comedy that showcases more of Carrey's trademark humor and wild side, while being a movie that even the most cynical person will get a good laugh at. Yes, it does get a little cliched near the end of the movie, but again, you will be having fun, so you won't care.

One day Carl heeds the advice of an old friend and goes to a self-help seminar. The motto "Yes is the new no!" If the movie's title is any indicator, you know what happens for the rest of the film. He says yes to anything and everything, even an extremely generous granny. Not very often a comedy comes out with a message worth listening to. "Yes Man" provides just that and exposes the audience to the powers of positive thinking. The movie itself is a montage of Carl saying yes to everything; Carl says yes to learning to speak Korean, Carl says yes to costume party invites from his boss, Carl says yes to flying lessons, and yes to a ... yes man this is a very funny movie by jim carey. Jim Carrey returns to hilarious form with this romantic comedy in the same vein as the Carrey classic LIAR LIAR. After a few stints in more serious features like ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and THE NUMBER 23, Carrey seems right at home playing Carl, a divorcé who starts out the film depressed and withdrawn, scared of taking a risk.
