My copy was missing the original outer sleeve when it arrived; however, both discs were in excellent condition and ran flawlessly. It is possible nowadays to watch the movie version of Cats via YouTube (there's a playlist out there which strings all the parts together); however, having the DVD set allows one to watch Cats offline, in order, and uninterrupted on any DVD player -- AND enjoy all the special features on Disc 2 (esp. the multipart "making of" featurette and several interviews with various people involved in the production). I love the music itself, of course; however, one's experience of the musical is greatly enhanced by watching the dancing and the interplay between the characters in conjunction with the music. This DVD is 10 times better than watching the show in person. Instead of your regular pit sized orchestra, Webber used a large studio and a 90 (guessing on the number) member orchestra to record the sound track. The whole production gets you up close and personal with the facial reactions of the cast (many of these cast members played their roles for numerous years on broadway and were called back to film this production). All this information can be found in greater detail in the documentary located on the bonus materials disc. I highly recommend this version!This DVD is 10 times better than watching the show in person. A fantastic Musical! Cats! A classic!
My daughter who is only 7 has been dancing since before she was three. Dancing is in her blood. The studio owner lent us a copy as my daughter loves Cats and dancing and ever since the first time she has watched Cats she never wants to watch anything else for TV time. Our family has Cats nights where we watch it together. It has something for all of us. My husband even likes it. I cry every time Memories is sung. My husband likes Mr Mistofolies. The dancers lines are amazing. The Cat's are all different, some of their beauty takes my breath away. The music is catchy. It is a timeless DVD. A must have for your collection. Better Than the new movie version
I prefer this Stage Version to the newer movie version. I didn't like the newer movie version. Too much production numbers in that compared to the Stage Version, which I saw in person several times.

Awesome!
Ok I have to say I am a 44 year old man and am not into opera. I started to watch this and thought it was Gay! So I shut it off. A few hours later at the insistence of my wife who wanted to at least finish watching it. I put it back on. If you watch this all the way through and not think of the dudes as gays, but as Cats, It is AWESOME! The songs are Incredible! The song feelings sung by Elaine Page is extremely emotional. Be prepared to get tiered up and to hide it from your wife and kids. I have watched it 11 times now and twice in one day. I can’t wait for it to come out on Blu-ray so I can buy it again!
