Product Information

A devoted son. A generous friend. A model Army recruit. A gifted entertainer. A beloved hero to millions. This is the Elvis Presly the world knew -- and cherished. Brooding. Violent. Obsessed with death. Strung out. Sexually driven. This is the other side of Elvis -- according to the three men who lived with him through it all -- a man who: * Chamed a beautiful young fan into joining him on a drug binge for two that nearly killed her * Took a group of friends on a 3 A.M. visit to a mortuary to look at corpses and talk about embalming * Hurled a pool cue at a party guest who interrupts his game, injuring her breast * Talked with his bodyguard about a "hit" on the man he felt stole his wife Steve Dunleavy has woven together the experiences of three Presley bodyguards who were there partying with him, womanizing with him, worrying with him -- tasting the pleasure and the pains of life with the most fabulous star in showbiz history!

Positive experience and overall happy with purchase! This was a rare used-item that is usually expensive but this generous seller sold it for a very reasonable price I could afford. Shipped super fast and arrived in really great condition for being pre-owned. Highly recommend to others!

  • Intriguing story but bias storytelling.

Whether you are a fan of Elvis or not, the title of the book clearly asks a haunting question that we all have asked ourselves. I purchased this book to get a better in sight of his life, and to help me answer the question for myself. However, I believe the authors came up short when attempting to tell the story, due to their biasness. I think in the end, the reader will have to surmise his or her own theory of “what happened”. But since none of us can judge, maybe we should be asking ourselves the same question when it comes to our own lives. Published a month (1st edition) prior to his death, the 332 page Elvis – What Happened?, clearly details Elvis’ shortcomings and his eccentric behavior, as told by bodyguards Red West, Sonny West, and Dave Hebler. During the one ...

  • A bit fragile due to the age, pages are crispy and yellow.

I have just started reading this book. Reading it is a bit difficult due to small print but I do think it may be difficult because of the story line. At this point I have not made a decision regarding recommendations.

  • I am glad that I read it, it filled in some questions that I had had.

To begin, I am still an Elvis fan. This book tells more about Elvis then I really wanted to know (but of course I kept reading it). As most all performers they had issues. The three that wrote this book tells everything! And as I read in other reviews, as said, the authors jumped back and forth, you will be reading about the later years of Elvis and all of a sudden you are back to when he first started out. I have read another book by Jerry S. he never went into such details as these three did. Sounds like Elvis was a spoiled brat who never grew up! Sorry Elvis.. God rest your soul.

  • Elvis.. What Happened?

To me, this was an in-your-face unauthorized biography. It tells the story of the "King" up close and personal. Yes, it is harsh. And, yes, it is believable. It shows that Elvis was a human just like me and you. He made mistakes and paid dearly for them. Addicted to drugs? This book convinced me that he was. A workaholic? I believe that, too. It also shows his affection for his daughter, Lisa Marie. Did he spoil her unmercifully? He was the "King" so why shouldn't he? This book shows the inside life of the greatest performer of all time. I feel sure he wouldn't want the world to know him this intimately but that's the price of fame. Everyone wants to know the real Elvis and this book will show you just that.

  • The ugly truth.

Notorious book written by Elvis’ disgruntled former employees and released just before his death in 1977. All true stories as it turned out.
