Christ the Lord - by Anne Rice
Anne Rice is an author who delves into the culture and setting of her characters with extensive research, imaginative style, and attention to detail (time period, clothes, traditions, male/female roles, everyday tools, architecture, etc.), with the result of putting the reader right beside the characters. When I become this involved in a book, I gauge it a good book. Rice has committed herself to a trilogy of the life of Jesus Christ (Christ the Lord is the 2nd book), putting the reader within his culture in a way similar to the film, The Passion, but it begins with Jesus as a child living in Egypt, then moving to Nazareth which is under the rule of the Romans, a very interesting transition of culture. While taking some liberties of imagination on the plot, Rice avoids theological debates ... Rice has committed herself to a trilogy of the life of Jesus Christ (Christ the Lord is the 2nd book), putting the reader within his culture in a way similar to the film, The Passion, but it begins with Jesus as a child living in Egypt, then moving to Nazareth which is under the rule of the Romans, a very interesting transition of culture. While taking some liberties of imagination on the plot, Rice avoids theological debates that often arise on such a topic, and stays with the human factor of a person, Jesus, surviving the conflicts of his own existence and relationships, while acknowledging who he is and what he is destined to do for mankind. I can't wait to read the 3rd book! I have only read one of Rice's vampire stories, but am now a fan of Anne Rice due to this trilogy. She has a new focus in her writing, and I hope her previous fans give her a chance to do something new and different. In the future, I will be buying the trilogy as a gift!

Christ the Lord - Road to Cana is Anne Rice's second novel imagining the life of Jesus before he began His mission of salvation. The story illustrates the humanity of Christ as well as His divinity. It is about a young man coming to grips with His destiny to fulfill the will of God as the Son of God; the Word made Flesh. It is a tender and touching story of both human and divine love. Please read this book if you believe, are still seeking faith or even if you are a non-believer. There is much to gain for all of you. Christ the Lord
I decided to buy this book beacuse I have been a long time reader of Anne Rice novels. I am very keen on Anne Rice writing about different subject matter than she usually does. I like that in this book, she humanizes Jesus so that maybe more people can relate to the tale. I was disappointed to note that she seems to have lost her flair for writing. Many critics have called her to core for using three pages of a novel to describe something. For me personally, this very thing is what I have always enjoyed reading her novels for. All in all, I was pleased with the book.I decided to buy this book beacuse I have been a long time reader of Anne Rice novels. This book, Christ the Lord- The Road to Cana, arrived and it was in NEW condition. Didn't appear to even have a page turned. My husband was thrilled to be able to add this to the first 2 books.
