More complicated than lead to expect, I would recommend for older children
I bought this book for my three sons and myself to learn how to play the guitar. The book basically teaches how to read music which was easy enough for me (I have 6 years of experience playing another instrument), but for my boys who have never played an instrument before in their life it was pretty complicated. The dvd is pretty fast paced. The instructor jumps right in showing the different chords on the guitar which my sons had a hard time keeping up with her and we had to rewind the DVD alot for them. We have not tried the CDs yet, but from what I understand they're just musical CDs that have all the songs from the book on them so that you can play along with them as you learn to play the different songs. This course would probably be better for a much older child or pre-teen. If purchased for a younger child with no musical background, I would definitely recommend that they take some sort of professional one on one lessons along with it.
