It is an interesting phenomenon in musicology that certain zenith points along that time line seem almost to arrest that progression in its tracks with a gravity of seeming divine intervention, and then propel it forward yet again on an arc of inevitable trajectory and momentum. Landmark works and recordings by such as J.S. Bach; Mozart; Beethoven; Lennon and McCartny; Jimi Hendrix; 'Dark Side Of The Moon', to name but a few, possess this enduring quality of perfection; that which transcends descriptivism, critique or fashion trends; that which continues to cycle back and orbit the collective psyche as essential icons on the dream scape of the human condition. It seems then, that everybody else, including- and often paradoxically the original artist themselves- spend the remainder of ... This original (remastered) 'Switched On Bach' is such a creative masterpiece. While much of modern digital technology strives to go back and recreate the natural analog world, this recording- with the use of then cutting edge analog Moog Prototype and problematic technology -was a total departure from the day; a futuristic vision and celebration of completely new sounds. In this case, the definitive Mastery of J.S. Bach's Baroque Era- with its strict contrapuntal discipline and 'perfect math'-set upon the momentum of the Newtonian 17th Century, seemed as the perfect vehicle to debut these new sounds. Each voice in the counterpoint- with it's meticulously assigned color and virtuosic delivery- can be clearly separated and recombined by even the most jaded and bombarded postmodern, pre-apocalyptic ear. This therapeutic experience of transcendence in active listening may potentially be of the highest order that music itself can ordain. My blatant recommendation of this work promises that it will always be fresh off the shelf for kids of all ages no matter what they bring to it

"Switched-On Bach: the CD"
Well I happen to have the ORIGINAL 1968 LP, "Switched-On Bach" by Walter Carlos (I first heard it and bought it as Walter back in the very early 70s so Walter it shall be for this review). Actually, I first heard "The Well-Tempered Synthesizer" at a friend's house (long before hearing the "Clockwork Orange" OST) and i was so captivated by it that I wanted to know what other work Carlos had done. i was refered to this gem that started it all, helping to bring classical music to the American music charts starting in 1968. Back then, the synthesizer was quite the revolutionary instrument and is expertly applied here to J.S. Bach's most well known masterpieces. This CD is exactly as the LP with the exception of an epilogue, so to speak, consisting of rough cuts of some of the tracks and ... nostalgic!
i've been waiting years for the price of this cd to come down to a reasonable level. someone must have thought it was made of gold. it's a great cd. i bought the LP when it first came out but i can't play it in my car. now i drive down the road with a big smile.

Superb remastering
This is by far the best-sounding version of Switched-On Bach I've ever heard, and I bought the original LP when it was first released and I know it intimately. For fans of this work, this is the one to get, as far as I'm concerned. A groundbreaking piece of work, without doubt.

Bach+moog+Wendy=bliss
This is not available on iTunes for some reason. And it's way better than Switched On Bach 2000. I never get tired of listening to it. Shear genius. Bach himself would have loved it, I'm sure.
