À propos de ce produit

Product Information

An affectionate parody that pays homage to the FRANKENSTEIN films (from the novel FRANKENSTEIN by Mary Shelley) directed by James Whale in the 1930s, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is both a zany comedy and a cinematic tour de force. Written by director Mel Brooks and the film's star, Gene Wilder, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN has all the usual--and in this case slightly unusual--suspects: the reluctant scientist Frederick Frankenstein, who is actually the grandson of the infamous creature-creator (pronounced "Fronken-steen" and played by Wilder), his spoiled fiancée (Madeline Kahn), Igor the pop-eyed hunchback (Marty Feldman), his dizzy assistant (Teri Garr), the castle's hideous head housekeeper (Cloris Leachman), and, of course, the Monster (Peter Boyle). Highlights include the sets, which are the original ones used in the Whale films; the beautiful black-and-white cinematography; and the fine screenplay. Combining noirish elegance with uproarious sight gags and double entendres is a feat Brooks pulls off fabulously, directing the wonderful ensemble to act with sensitivity and humanistic feelings as well as with lunatic abandon. YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is a treat from beginning to end.

  • Classic comedy

This is one of my favorite movies of all time ever. Gene Wilder is excellent, as well as Terri Garr, Cloris Leachman, Madelaine Kahn, and of course, Peter Boyle as Frankenstein. If you like to laugh, and love quirky comedies, then you must see this movie. You will watch it over and over again...and laugh at the same jokes every time. Mel Brooks was at the top of his game when he directed this one. Five stars and two big thumbs up!

  • For Frankenstein fans, that don't like sequel/filler.

Boris Karloff felt there should've been no sequel to "Frankenstein". Before discovering he said that, I felt the same way. Even "Bride" and "Son of Frankenstein" was unnecessary filler. However, Mel Brooks' genius proves this is more than a respectable sequel, to Karloff's original. I feel Peter Boyle makes the movie great. No slack on Gene Wilder's part, but Boyle makes the movie (maybe cause I call the monster "Frankenstein" too). Sure this is a comedy, but it more than compliments the Karloff movie. Plus, it gives the ending you feel should happen in Mary Shelly's book. Unlike his grandfather, Freddy Frankenstein cares about his creation. He makes himself a "guinea pig", so the monster can turn good. A great ending, for one of my favorite movie monsters.

  • A Comedy Classic!

This is one of my favorite comedies of all time! There is nothing I can say about the writing, directing, acting that is negative. Mel Brooks is a comedic genius, and the 1970's were his 'golden years' of film making. (Actually go back to 1968 and the original 'The Producers') Gene Wilder stars in & co-wrote this film and 'Blazing Saddles', which were made within about a year of each other. Both are comedy classics! The late great Peter Boyle is a superb 'Frankenstein's Monster' and is so funny! The late great Madeline Kahn is wonderful as well. Another of my favorites of the 'Mel Brooks Stock Company' is Cloris Leachman. She is a scene stealer in this film as well as in 'High Anxiety'! 'Young Frankenstein' is a winner. Check it out if you are unfamiliar with the comedy of the great ...

  • Young Frankenstein

Young Frankenstein has a cast of off beat hilarious characters that make you howl with laughter. This is a fantastic comedy that you just can't help but enjoy. The fact that its in black and white really adds to the fun since its a parody of the original classic horror film, Frankenstein. This is one of my favorite comedies and its the perfect after dinner party enjoyment to share with friends. Just supply bowls of popcorn and comfy chairs. Your guests will love you for it! It truly is one of the best comedies ever made.

  • Young Frankenstein (DVD, 1998)

Old Gene Wilder movie spoof on the Frankenstein Story. Wilder is a professor of Anatomy who inherits his family's ancestral castle in Transylvania. He goes there to put aside the family ridicule and shame. Teri Garr, young and lovely now, is Wilder's assistant. Marty Feldman is the hunchback, and Peter Boyle is the creature. Lots of one liners and nutty comedy in this movie filled with the "usual Suspects" make this Mel Brooks classic both funny and silly. Still well done in that black and white retro style of the 1970's. Some parts are truly funny.
