À propos de ce produit

Product Information

The planet closest to our Sun, Mercury is a rocky, barren, heat-scorched world. But there are those who hope to find wealth in its desolation. Saito Yamagata thinks Mercury's position makes it an ideal place to generate power to propel starships into deep space. Astrobiologist Victor Molina thinks the water at Mercury's poles may harbor evidence of life. Bishop Elliot Danvers has been sent by the Earth-based "New Morality" to keep close tabs on Molina. But all three of these men are blissfully unaware of their shared history, and of how it connects to the collapse of Mance Bracknell's geosynchronous space elevator a generation ago. Now they're about to find out, because Mance is determined to have his revenge...

  • Grand Tour still well worth reading

I began to read this book with a negative review in my head, which suggested that the setting of Mercury was arbitrary and had little to do with the revenge story. However, despite the negation of that suggestion by the plot of the story, I found myself enthralled in the plot and interested in the progression of events on Earth (which are not covered in much detail in his other books, save The Return, although I have not yet read that) and the action around the space elevator. It was slightly funny how both of the space elevators in Mercury and Red Mars were sabotaged and collapsed onto their respective worlds. I think whenever we get around to building our first space elevator, we should build it on the Moon, so that when it inevitably collapses, no one will be harmed. But the book was ...

  • Loved it!

Another page turner by Ben Bova. His entire "Grand Tour" series is an amazing combination of inter-related, yet entirely different tales from our own Solar System. His ideas are so realistic, that you would swear that this is possible today. Way to go Ben! I look forward to continuing my read of your novels!
