À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Made into a major motion picture starring Johnny Depp, The Rum Diary --a national bestseller and New York Times Notable Book--is Hunter S. Thompson's brilliant love story of jealousy, treachery, and violent lust in the Caribbean. Begun in 1959 by a twenty-two-year-old Hunter S. Thompson, The Rum Diary is a brilliantly tangled love story of jealousy, treachery, and violent alcoholic lust in the Caribbean boomtown that was San Juan, Puerto Rico, in the late 1950s. The narrator, freelance journalist Paul Kemp, irresistibly drawn to a sexy, mysterious woman, is soon thrust into a world where corruption and get-rich-quick schemes rule, and anything (including murder) is permissible. Exuberant and mad, youthful and energetic, this dazzling comedic romp provides a fictional excursion as riveting and outrageous as Thompson's Fear and Loathing books.

  • A lovingly written book that reveals its emotional depths slowly.

Hunter Thompson's first book. It takes place in Puerto Rico in the late 1950s. An intriguing love story of jealousy, treachery and lust in the town of San Juan, which was a boomtown at that time. If you have followed Johnny Depp's life of success and lust and alcohol/drug episodes, as well as his romantic life and loves, you might be intrigued by this story. Hunter Thompson was a friend of JD and a mentor in many ways.

  • Great first novel from HST.

Great book. I have read several HST books and was curious about his first. HST had not quite developed his "gonzo" style, but the beginnings were certainly there. I found it funny that he thought of the age of 30 as middle age and the beginning of the end (backside of his life). The Rum Diary has several unique characters intertwined into Kemp's life in San Juan. Great visual descriptions of the time. Hunter makes it easy to imagine you were right there with him. Cant wait to see the movie now. Hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

  • One of Hunter Thompson's early works.

I thought it was a moving book about a journalist in Puerto Rico when life was easier and things were sure cheaper. Life comes out in color in his writings. Much better than the drug crazed years. This tries to center it's story around a writer and the bar that they hang out in and the many talents off of a rum diet. A good read.

  • An interesting tale of a Puerto Rican newspaper as told by an employee.

This book is some of the earlier known writing of Thompson. It captures perfectly the late fifties-early sixties in Puerto Rico. Thompson is always interesting and the tale is full of non-stop action and colorful characters. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
