A Bit of a Disappointment
I was interested to read Alcorn’s books because of how helpful some of the other stuff he has written has been (The Treasure Principle, Heaven, etc.). However, Alcorn’s heavy handed approach was a real turn-off. In order to make his points he uses extreme examples that make it seem like anyone who gets involved in sexual promiscuity will end-up destitute, with some disease or other unwanted consequence, having totally rejected their faith. Not only that, but I didn’t find his descriptions of purity to be all the great either. My assumption going in was that Alcorn and I would have different views on what purity meant and I was looking forward to interacting to his in a meaningful way. However, in the book he often simply refers to purity as if assuming everyone agrees with some universal ... Quick, easy, helpful little book. Every Mans Battle if you want depth.
A good, solid, easy to read book. Not too deep...can read in an evening. It speaks mostly to a man...coaching by use of the bible to act pure. Pure in both physical and mental activities. It was helpful to me. Every Mans Battle is the real winner in this category of books for me, but this is worth the small purchase price and short time committment to read.

Good Stance, but from Wrong Motives
I like the strong, Biblical stance the author takes against sexual immorality, but I cannot agree with the author's habitual promotion of selfishness as the primary motive for New Testament obedience. God knows our hearts and any obedience that comes from mere selfish motives does not bring Him happiness, as it is nothing more than the legalism of the Pharisees. More books speaking out against the world's low morals, and the promotion of sexual purity needs to be written, but not from the motive of selfish fear or hope of reward (remember that we are to deny ourselves and take up our cross), but rather from the motive of having a foremost, unselfish Love for God and our neighbor. We should be obedient to God not because of what may or may not receive in return, but rather because God is ... Great book
This is a wonderful book to use in helping people see the value of living holy lives. Many very clear practical suggestions and helpful steps. Best of all clear logic as to why the Christian is directed by God toward holy living. This book is not designed to be exhaustive study as Alcorn's book on Heaven is, but rather a primer for those at the outset making a determination as to how they will live (Great book for teens).This is a wonderful book to use in helping people see the value of living holy lives. Many very clear practical suggestions and helpful steps. Best of all clear logic as to why the Christian is directed by God toward holy living. This book is not designed to be exhaustive study as Alcorn's book on Heaven is, but rather a primer for those at the outset making a determination as to how they will live (Great book for teens).
