Great DLSR with everything you need
great DLSR with image stabilization and all the features you need. I have used it with my my old OM system lenses in the aperture mode and a 40-150mm Olympus DSLR lens. Both work flawlessly!

Compact ,versatile platform for legacy glass
For the past few years I have been shooting well with a Canon S5 IS bridge camera. Excellent photos but I was missing the old SLR experience. I did a lot of research before I chose Olympus over the more numerous Canon and Nikon options, not the least being it's easy adaptability for legacy glass (and that it was not a Canon or a Nikon - I like to be a little different). I picked up an E-420 because of it's compact size, especially when wearing my old Zuiko 50mm 1.8 it reminded me of my old OM-10. That E-420 took great pictures but it soon became apparent that I was missing the in-the-lens image stabilization my S5 IS afforded me. So I looked around and found a nice lightly used E-510 body with in-body stabilization. The E-510 is not much different or bigger than the E-400 series but ... For the past few years I have been shooting well with a Canon S5 IS bridge camera. Excellent photos but I was missing the old SLR experience. I did a lot of research before I chose Olympus over the more numerous Canon and Nikon options, not the least being it's easy adaptability for legacy glass (and that it was not a Canon or a Nikon - I like to be a little different). I picked up an E-420 because of it's compact size, especially when wearing my old Zuiko 50mm 1.8 it reminded me of my old OM-10. That E-420 took great pictures but it soon became apparent that I was missing the in-the-lens image stabilization my S5 IS afforded me. So I looked around and found a nice lightly used E-510 body with in-body stabilization. The E-510 is not much different or bigger than the E-400 series but with a few less bells and whistles than the E-420 and 520, particularly its lower resolution LCD (which I NEVER use except to check/adjust camera settings). It also shoots 3sps as opposed to their 3.5sps but for me that's almost no difference. As with the other Olys it takes both a CF card and an Olympus proprietary SD card which increases your storage capacity by at least 50%. The battery holds a pretty good charge, giving me about 350 RAW shots per charge. Another nice touch is the optional wireless remote shutter release. You can pick one up from outside vendors for almost nothing but keep in mind it only works head on, for self portrait shots. Using the 4/3 mount means that there aren't as many available digital lenses as you have for Canon and Nikon but the Olympus glass is top notch. The easy to find inexpensive kit lenses are quite good and very light weight to boot. I'm having a blast playing around with old lenses using Fotodiox's inexpensive mount adapters. Only the Zuikos will focus to infinity but my old Canon macros work great close in. With the latest software upgrade IS will work with these older lenses. But no AF, only manual focus. A smallproblem here, as many have already stated, is the viewfinder. Not real big and not real bright, but this is the result of the 4/3 sensor, a disadvantage that is more than made up for by the camera's compactness and adaptability. (Besides, I hear the same complaint from other camera owners.) For manual focus, close in or telephoto work I recommend picking up Oly's magnifying eyepiece, the ME-1, And of course, be careful because all the eyepieces can easily fall off. I would use a little Elmer's Glue on the mount if I didn't change the pieces out occasionally. (The viewfinder is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars across the board.) One thing I noticed that originally alarmed me: I found the camera surface at the thumb rest to become noticeably warm after a few shots. After checking the web I found that this is the normal result of the image stabilizer working. I don't know if this could be a problem or not but, just to be safe, unless the light is low or I am using a long lens, I keep the IS turned off. With a monopod, an old Soligor 230mm (effective 460mm) 4.5 zoom and a Vivitar thyristor zoom flash I have taken amazing hummingbird shots at dusk at 100 ISO. Very versatile camera. (Be careful, btw, never use old flash equipment on digital bodies - the high voltage will end up frying your camera's circuitry.) I have taken many beautiful shots in the last few months, some of the best I've taken over the past 30 years. Great camera.

wonderful camera!
I had the Evolt 300 and loved that camera. This camera was an upgrade and I love the small things they have done to make thw camera more user- friendly. I am a high school art teacher and use this camera to photograph my Advanced Placement art students' portfolios. The picture quality is excellent and the camera is so easy to use.

Doesn't have all the bells and whistles
Even though this camera is dated, it is still a very usable, capable camera. I had a 500 which didn't have image stabilization, and this body gave me that, plus some more features the 500 didn't have.
