HDMI board and bluetooth defective
I purchased this item used. Upon hooking it up the hdmi output would flicker then go blank. Have tried everything recommended to fix this problem, it's obviously a bad hdmi board. I have never been able to get the Bluetooth to sync to any of my speakers. I have seen reviews on hdmi problems with this receiver, I should have paid attention to those reviews. This is basically a boat anchor.

Great 7.2 Receiver at Intro price, Tons of features and power. Unbeatable.

I was happy with the RC360, and originally looked to replace with the exact same receiver, or possibly the new RC460. One of the big issues with the Onkyo was that I had to buy an external Wifi Adapter. The Onkyo's also only had 1 USB port to put it in. Thus, if I wanted to play music from my iOS devices, I had to remove the Wifi adapter. This was a pain. So I thought, I wonder if there are any receivers that have built-in Wifi? After doing a little research I came across this receiver as the only one close to my ... After doing a little research I came across this receiver as the only one close to my price range, that met all my wants: -Built-in Wifi -min. 7.1 speaker setup ~120 Watts, 8imp, with 2 ch. driven. This one also included AirPlay and built in Wifi! So my next thought was: What's the catch? It has to be glitchy, ugly, too big to fit in my cabinet...something! The reviews looked great, and it was smaller than my previous ONkyo, so it would comfortably fit into my 14"x18"x13" cabinet. So...getting it at $300 was a no-brainer. When it came in, I already had my speaker wires ready to go, cabinet waiting for it to fit right in. So within an hour I had everything hooked up, very standard back panel that was easy to navigate. The speaker hook ups were nice because I use banana clips, and they were perfect fits. I believe there were 2 AV (yellow, white, red) inputs, and plenty of HDMI inputs. This allowed for my PS3, Wii, Uverse Box, and old school VHS player ( I know right, who still has those?) to hook up with spare HDMI slots. After hook up, I did the recommend factory reset, and mic calibration. With <5 minutes reading in the manual, I had my receiver powered on, and speakers calibrated. The speaker setup was nice because it has every possible setup ready pre-made, so that you tell it exactly what your setup is, and then it calibrates the speakers. I ran it twice, and checked the levels / placement of the speakers, and it was very close to what I wanted. I easily adjusted a couple settings and g2g. At this point, I turned on all my devices and switched through inputs to ensure everything was working naturally. One of the only cons on this receiver is that its input switching is quite slow. I would estimate it around 5 seconds before the new video feed comes through. After happy with that, I wanted to test the network capabilities. I went to network settings, and it immediately found my network, and connected first try. So next to try would be the Airplay. Airplay was a little task, because I had to actually stream something from my PC in order for my iOS device to pickup the receiver's airplay capability. Once it did, I hit the switch, and it started streaming (audio only). However, I noticed that it was only coming out of my 2 front speakers. While trying to fix that issue, the Airplay became intermittent, dropping every couple minutes, for 5-15 seconds. I have updated the software, and still am looking for a solution to this issue! However the Bluetooth worked on first try! In conclusion, this receiver is a great buy, with tons of features, as well as power. With little disappointment, and such great value, I had to give it 5 stars, no question in my mind. I hope I can steer someone towards this baby, it's AWESOME!

Very good receiver for the money but needs a better GUI display!
For the price this receiver has decent sound and enough HDMI inputs for what I need. The only negative marks I have against it is the on screen GUI display. It looks like a command prompt screen very 1970 computer looking and sluggish. I think that Sony could do a better job on that. I also wish it had a second HDMI output so I could hook up a secondary monitor for when I just want to hear music. I have this hooked up to my theater system in our basement that only has a video projector. I have to turn that on to view the GUI display. Other than that I am pretty pleased with the unit and would recommend it.For the price this receiver has decent sound and enough HDMI inputs for what I need. The STR-DN1030 is not the right receiver for multi-zone applications, or audiophiles who want robust EQ options or 7.1 channel pre-outs. It is, however, a great choice for an average consumer who wants extremely solid single-room performance. The host of network features, HDMI upconversion, solid auto setup mic, built in Bluetooth and WiFi, up to 7.2 surround sound support, and good sound quality make this receiver stand out from the crowd. Unfortunately, the poorly designed remote and menu system really hamper the ability of a consumer to pick up the remote and start enjoying their favorite music or movies. After playing with the receiver for a while, one can get used to the layout, but it is an unnecessary learning curve that makes me shy away from recommending this receiver to ... Best receiver I've owned so far - it is packed with features
This is the best A/V receiver that I've owned so far. I've owned an Onkyo TX-SR606 and a Sony STRDH520 in the past. This receiver pumps out better sound and has ten times the number of features. I'll skip going in to too much detail about things like the 5 HDMI inputs, the wattage, and the other bullet points that are clearly listed in the extensive product description here on Amazon. Instead, I'll focus on some of the other questions that I'd be left with as a potential buyer. == BLUETOOTH == This A/V receiver allows for audio streaming over Bluetooth, so you can play music directly from your phone for example. I tested this feature using my Samsung Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). This replaces my previous method of streaming audio from my phone, ... This replaces my previous method of streaming audio from my phone, the Logitech Wireless Speaker Adapter for Bluetooth Audio Devices that I had connected to my older Sony STR-DH520. This receiver can remember pairing information for 9 Bluetooth devices. == WI-FI / NETWORK == There is an antenna on the back of the receiver for connecting via Wi-Fi. The range was fine in my living room. There is also an Ethernet port for a wired connection (my preference). Before you customize the receiver's settings too much, be sure to download the latest update using the settings menu. The download was fast on my internet connection, but the update itself took about 30 minutes to be installed. After restarting, some of my speaker settings were lost and needed to be reset. Using the network connection, you are able to play music on network DLNA servers, which I was able to do using mp3 files stored on my Windows 7 computer in another part of the house. (The receiver cannot play DRM-protected files.) There are also a number of services available using the "SONY Entertainment Network (SEN)". Many of the services, like Pandora and Slacker music streaming, are free and require minimal setup. For example, I linked to my Pandora account after logging in to SONY's special website (listed on the screen) and entering the receiver's code, so all of my Pandora stations and presets show up. I was also able to connect to Slacker's example stations without having to connect to any account. There are some other services available, including vTuner and a pay service called "Music Unlimited". Another available feature is "Party Streaming", which requires Party Streaming-compliant devices. 20 of these devices can be saved to the list at a time. You may also play music from your compatible iOS devices using AirPlay. There is an iOS/Android app called "SONY Media Remote" that allows you to control many aspects of this receiver from your smartphone via Wi-Fi. I installed on on my Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.1 and it works surprisingly well. Response time is just as fast as the regular remote. Personally, I probably won't use it all that much only because I prefer tactile buttons instead of a touchscreen when using a remote, but it will still be a cool thing to show off to visitors. :) == AUDIO AND VIDEO == Yes, the audio and video is great, especially after using the included auto-calibration microphone. I am using this receiver with a Dish Network receiver, a PS3, a Logitech Revue with Google TV, a three year old 46-inch Samsung LCD TV, and an Energy 5.1 Take Classic Home Theater Speaker set. == SUMMARY == This is a great receiver, and I am very happy with it. There are many features that I haven't delved into because I do not have compatible devices, but well worth the money!
