Bill (Jeremy Theobald) is in trouble. He's a writer who, when bored with pounding the keys on his Remington, goes into the streets to follow people. He becomes so obsessed with following them that he has set up rules--like not following them when he discovers where they live or work. Then, one day, he breaks those rules. And, as he explains to the policeman he is telling all this to, "that was when the trouble started." Bill gets closer and closer to those he is following. He follows one man into a restaurant, and is startled when the man, Cobb (Alex Haw), confronts him. Cobb, too, is interested in people--but he doesn't follow them, his interested is peaked by robbing them. Bill joins Cobb in breaking into an apartment. So begins FOLLOWING, Christopher Nolan's fiendishly clever first film. Nolan was director, screenwriter, co-producer, director of photography, and co-editor, and only able to shoot on Saturdays--the filming took a year. Set in the grimy streets of London, the tightly wound thriller unfolds in a series of overlapping plots, each more intricate than the last, each pulling Bill deeper and deeper into ever worse trouble. FOLLOWING may be short in length and cheaply made; it is also devastating.

Peculiar Atmosphere in Black and White
Christopher Nolan’s first: no budget (I mean ‘no’) and a lot of talent (I mean ‘lot’ too). Made in UK, London, and very British. We’re into peculiar atmospheres and odd people. You know it from the first image, and it hangs all the way through like a smog. No fun, no thrills, no entertainment. It’s more like a devious investigation around mysterious crimes. At some point it seems to turn weird and insane, starts to make you fell uneasy, but things are not what they seem and they will not happen the way you expect. To that extend, the script is a twisted piece of art. The directing, given the means, is really impressive (Nolan has shot most of it in his own flat, but that you’ll never guess – even when you know it you don’t see it). A performance altogether. But if you want to spend a relaxing and enjoyable evening before the screen, you might be disappointed.

Yes it's a cool Etiquette Among THIEVES movie, worth watching. This flick sat in my netfix cue for a year... what was I waiting for? Eh... Memento was good but took some watching it a few times for it to make sense. This film is gritty, edgy and bold. Shot in B/W it has a voyeur feel to it. I was glued to it. It's basically a three character piece of great cinema. Very noir in tone. It is this odd, claustrophobic neo-noir film about a seedy young Brit (Jeremy Theobald) who's obsessed with following people -- albeit harmlessly at first. After meeting a like-minded bloke (Alex Haw), the twosome graduate to breaking and entering that ends well for some but not for others. Give it your attention... you'll find it very entertaining. A good movie stands the test of time. And this one ... Yes it's a cool Etiquette Among THIEVES movie, worth watching. This flick sat in my netfix cue for a year... what was I waiting for? Eh... It was a good flick, I picked it up strictly because of the director, Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Memento,). He is a genius when it comes to directing films. This was okay, but keep in mind it was his first 'major' picture, so it wasn't nearly as good as the aforementioned films (all of which are in the IMDB top 100 of all-time). Worth the six bucks I paid for it, by all means, though.It was a good flick, I picked it up strictly because of the director, Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Memento,).
