Director John Badham's hit film propelled John Travolta to stardom, made white polyester suits an instant fashion craze, and garnered praise for its portrayal of blue-collar life. Nineteen-year-old Brooklyn native Tony Manero (Travolta) lives for Saturday nights at the local disco, where he's king of the club, thanks to his stylish moves on the dance floor. But outside of the club, things don't look so rosy. At home, Tony fights constantly with his father and has to compete with his family's starry-eyed view of his older brother, a priest. Nor can he find satisfaction at his dead-end job at a paint store. However, things begin to change when he spies Stephanie (Karen Lynn Gorney) in the disco and starts training with her for the club's dance competition. Stephanie dreams of the world beyond Brooklyn, and her plans to move to the big city just over the bridge soon change Tony's life forever. This portrait of young Brooklyn natives struggling to escape their sheltered lives for freedom and adventure in the big city of Manhattan defined a generation of disco dancers and 1970s youths rebelling against the more traditional expectations of their parents. JOHN TRAVOLTAS GREATEST PERFORMANCE!
SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. The themes are so universal that every generation can relate to them. Several of the songs recorded by the Bee Gees remained at the top of the charts for weeks upon weeks. The lyrics written for the songs really support the dance sequences, and characters. This movie is about Tony Manero (John Travolta) who loves to dance at a local disco tech, and has a dead end job working in a paint store. There is quite a bit of cursing, and racial slurs although it is appropriate because that is the nature of the characters who come from a rough neighborhood in Brooklyn. Tony attracts an enormous amount of attention dancing for the crowds at the disco tech. It is also at the disco tech where Tony takes an interest in a dancer named ... Stephanie is someone who is going somewhere in life, and their relationship forms into something special. Norman Wexlers screenplay, and John Badhams directing is terrific. John Travoltas dancing is really great, and his solo dance is one of the best I have ever seen in any movie. Do not let seventies style clothes, and hair discourage you from wanting to see this timeless classic. This movie launched John Travoltas film career, and was well known Chicago Film Critic Gene Siskels favorite movie. Gene Siskel later became the owner of the white suit worn in the movie.

Not Worth the purchase (Blu-Ray Edition)
One of my favorite films of all time finally got the Blu-ray treatment, but the final result in my opinion is lackluster at best. The seminal 70's flick hustled its way to Blu_ray via Paramount Pictures and the final output is ho-hum. PQ: grainy and dim, not enough contrast. You can see the film needed a re-mastering, but alas the product was a let down. SQ: The ound mix while crisp and clean seems overbearing when compared with the PQ, it is almost as if the final mix was done by someone who has no idea on how to mix sound to style. Special features: Everything on the BR disc can be found on the 30th anniversary SD-DVD edition, and the commentary is lifted from the 2002 DVD release. Overall save your money and just grab the 2002 25th Anniversary release as it has better ...
