TimeSplitters is the first PlayStation 2 title to come from Free Radical Design, a company founded by a handful of ex-Rare employees who worked on GoldenEye 007 for the N64. The Story mode tells of the TimeSplitters -- an enigmatic race capable of traveling through time -- who have been awakened from centuries of dormancy to eliminate the human race. You take control of characters spanning various eras in human history, from 1935 to 2035, as you attempt to put a stop to this vile plan, once and for all. The main Story mode, while primarily a single-player adventure, can be played by two players cooperatively. By completing the Story mode, a single-player Challenge mode can be unlocked that presents the player with a series of pre-defined scenarios, such as obtaining a certain number of kills before the time expires, or surviving wave upon wave of zombies in a haunted house. Completing these will unlock secrets and extra characters for use in the multiplayer arena. A first-person shooter with an emphasis on speed, TimeSplitters' main focus is on multiplayer mayhem, allowing up to four players to take part in competitive and cooperative split-screen action in Deathmatch, Bagtag, Capture the Bag, Knockout, Escort and Last Stand modes. If desired, up to ten computer-controlled opponents known as "Bots" can be included in multiplayer matches. Settings can be altered prior to a game, allowing players to customize the score limit, score method, time limit, friendly fire, one-shot kills, handicaps, and weapons available, among others. Statistics, which range from number of kills to windowpanes destroyed, can be recorded for each player. A mapmaker utility has been included that allows players to design and save their own maps to the memory card, for future play. By choosing from pre-set pieces, levels of varying sizes can be constructed, after which the player can select a theme and tileset from those provided.

"Fun FPS with Quirky Characters"
This FPS game is incredible and funny, in a good way of course. The series is often compared to GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark. There's a wide array of interesting characters, from a old school detective to a sentient robot. The story is alright, but the multiplayer mode is where it shines. One of my favorite part of this game is that you can play against bots (AI-controlled enemies), but playing against friends is even better. Play this game! TimeSplitters; It takes me back to days before the US had a telecommunication network good enough to support online multi-player that was affordable for the masses. TimeSplitters is a blue-disc CD game, not a DVD. The game is an FPS, with a story mode and supports up to 4 players in split-screen to take full advantage of the multi-player side of the game (death match). What set TimeSplitters apart from the onslaught of games in its genre, both at its time and still to this day, is that it is one of very few console based games that provids in-game development tools to create your own content -a map editor. Maps could be made to a limitation of content size, as maps could be saved and loaded from the player's memory card. Hours of fun! unlockable characters! Just buy the game already if you ... Yes, it was such a hit that a sequel was made; The sequel is able to host multi-player LAN (X-Link Kai), though limited on PS2 vs XBOX version by half the maximum players (requires a network adapter as well if not using SLIM PS2s).

I control the time crystals
I now have all the games in the series- and oh boy does this game run great. Considering this one is the first in the series and the disk and box are in immaculate condition- amazing. Just absolutely superb quality. Chef's kiss.

It's a good game
