For Completist? Maybe.
If you love or are a completist of W.C. Fields movies then buy this immediately. If you're on the fence be aware. The movies are not the super best by our hero. I mean, I could watch these once a month until i die but I'm a super fan of W.C. To me W.C. Fields, Marx Brothers, Laurel & Hardy, Three Stooges and many more... are a very important part of my life. This box set is worth every penny. The box is awesome! Easy to use and very appealing in the looks department. The Movie quality is Very Good. Not amazing but the prints look and sound good. My ONLY complaint is... Why are there 5 discs here? The "longest movie is 1 hr. & 14 minutes! It DOES make it easier to find and play the movies. Could that be the 'reason' there are 5 disc's? Second Volume from a Comedy Orginal Does Not Disappoint
Volume Two contains some lesser known Fields movies, but the viewing will please old Fields fans as well as newcomers to his craft. The five films spotlight Fields through various stages in his career, from 1934's "You're Telling Me" to 1941's "Never Give a Sucker an Even Break". This collection has a little bit of everything, from a hilarious car chase to an exhibition of Fields' amazing juggling skills, done without special effects; AMAZING!! Typically, Fields receives abuse from family, friends, and strangers but manages to do good in the end, akin to an early version of Larry David in "Curb Your Enthusiasm". The collection is nicely presented in a coloful holder with excellent liner notes and pictures of Fields' movie ... Volume Two contains some lesser known Fields movies, but the viewing will please old Fields fans as well as newcomers to his craft. Some Very Enjoyable Cinematic History.
The second collection of W. C. Fields films contains some of his lesser known films, including some "pre-code" films. If you watch the films in both volumes in chronological order, you can see the development of Fields' unique view of life, and especially of family life. Whether or not you take the chronological approach or not, you will enjoy yourself. Fields is/was a great entertainer who worked very hard to get hiss ideas on film, often having to fight the studios tooth and nail to do it.The second collection of W. C. Great collection of a great comic!
A few of the movies were duds, but they were very light on the plot and heavy on the “guest appearance.” But then you need to realize that these films were before television and some movies were intended to be variety shows. Some were just an interesting evening watching an old movie, but most had some great “laugh out loud” moments. And there was nothing that would keep you from letting kids see it. Some mild innuendo that was strategically over the head of those kiddos that shouldn’t be exposed to that subject just yet. Now, I have to have vol. 1 !!!
It does not get any better than this if you are a WC Fields fan. The content is without question (It is WC Fields!). The bonus is that any audio and grapics has been well preserved and optimized in post production and preservation. In other words, it has never been better! If you are a WC Fields fan, this is a must have!! Volume 1? I have to buy it now!!
