Product Information

This film is often classified as a horror film (most likely because it contains some of the most gruesome footage in cinematic history). Though that may work to sell the product, in some sense this is an injustice to what the director meant to achieve. If only the subject matter was the stuff of fantasy. This bold and utterly uncompromising film unveils the real life horrors of the Nanking Massacre. It describes the real life nightmare through the eyes of two young brothers who witness the brutal murders of their parents. While trying to escape with their uncle, they get separated and have to struggle for survival on their own. The story line is peppered generously with actual film footage and historic photographs. Yes, some of the images of slaughter are unbelievable. The average viewer would even expect to see violence of this kind.This film is intentionally difficult to watch because it is infinitely depressing to be reminded that mankind can be capable of such evil. The purpose behind these shocking images of bloody torture, rape, and murder teaches that war is often an excuse to entertain man's sordid impulses without reservation. Many believe the true scale of this event has since been minimized. Other nations have done this when they were later embarrassed by their own senseless violence during wartime. The director succeeds in making it impossible for anyone to sweep the atrocities at Nanking under the carpet. An incredible film, for the very brave.

Black Sun : The Nanking Massacre
At first glance this film seem like another horror/slash flicks with excessive violence , blood and gore with low budget and cardboard charactor but many viewers will be shock to learn that everything depict in the film were actualy events that occured during Japanese occupasion of Nanking . This film is very important and very significant because it is one and only film about the rape of Nanking ,the actual event when 350,000 Chinese were raped , tortured and murdered by Japanese Imperial army. This film is complimentary of Iris Chang's The Rape of Nanking book ( 1996) It was like visual depiction of events with some of significant charactor such as John Rabe -a German Nazi party member and businessman who took upon himself to save countless life of Chinese by establishing the safe ... After reading Iris Chang's book and watch this film I forgive all the low budget, poor acting and everything else and I praise the courage and gut of director T Mau who made this film so that future generation will never forget this dreadful events.

A Excellent movie, it is powerful & sad, this is Fact
This is worth viewing and the DVD Special edition well worth buying for the 'extras',included notable items including a most illuminating 1944 US propaganda film, 'Why We Fight: The Battle Of China' - not to be missed. I watch this movie, as i was watching this movie i was amazed at the realism, quite captivating the director was way ahead of his time infact if this movie was to be remade by only a director with simalar skill set iam sure it would be successful at the box office. The only downfall is that it is the truth and most of us dont want to know what to know the truth we are to busy fantasizing about the what we wished happened over this time period. For the Film Critic with a hard stomach i recommend it, for the casual movie watcher yes you can watch ... It is a 100% grimy movie but very well made and the shock value will make movies like "Saw" and "Hostel" look like sesame street. This is True Film at its best, Eastern film in general is very underrated. The director has more balls than any American director or even just any mainstream filmmaker would in depicting the atrocitiesgh an atrocity doesn't automatically make a good film, I still find this attempt at truly conveying the horror commendable. And further, there is no imposed happy ending, unlike western films that try to deal with these things. For that, I think I can forgive the stylistic difficulties. You could be a big mac meal and a coke or you could buy this movie you decide.
