  • Great for Halloween - Scary in a fun way

I love the cinematography and the thought behind the four stories in Trick r' Treat. The director does a very good job framing the Halloween festivities - much like Ray Bradbury does in some of his descriptions of Halloween, such as in The Halloween Tree. Or what does Linus say in the Great Pumpkin, "The most sincere pumpkin patch...?" This world is very true-to-sincerity with scenes that are rich, detailed, well orchestrated, and build a savory Halloween night. The mix of 4 spooky movie shorts seen here, all subtly tied together, are fun to absorb as a (black & orange) whole. Much like reading a collection of Halloween short stories... each one wonderfully different from the rest, but pursuing the same spooky theme. But they can't all be winners. I have my two favorites: I love the ...

  • Trick r Treat: awesome if found in a bargain bin.

After the failure that was Superman Returns, screenwriter Michael Dougherty chose to direct his first feature film with a character he had created years ago named Sam. His title: Trick r Treat. Although it didn't enjoy much commercial success (due to its considerably short length or any other reason), the result is quite a creepy film with lots of funny, horrifying moments filled with clues to the legends and lores of All Hallow's Eve. I'll be the first to admit, running just under 82 minutes is too short a length to appreciate such an idea, no matter how well written it was. The actors make a very nice effort in their two-dimensional roles, yet manage to be convincing enough. You will see a "before True Blood" Anna Paquin, dressed as the little Red Riding Hood... but you have absolutely ...

  • "Pretty Good Halloween Flick!"

Dylan Baker, Anna Paquin and Brian Cox star in this 2007 horror anthology film. This naturally takes place on Halloween night aka "Samhain" with 4 eerie, interlocked tales. They involve a nerdy principal who moonlights as a serial killer, a school bus legend involving a group of kids, a female virgin searching for the perfect guy and a mean, old man who gets a mysterious visitor. This is a pretty good Halloween flick with a decent cast that follows in the footsteps of "Creepshow" and "Tales from the Crypt." This Blu-ray has nice picture and sound plus some neat extras. If you like the holiday or horror in general, I recommend checking this out .

  • The perfect halloween movie.

Full discloser, Halloween is my favorite holiday. Now with that out of the way I must say this is the perfect Halloween movie. They take some of the "rules" of Halloween and incorporate them into the movie. For example, "always check your candy". The movie takes place one Halloween night and tells 4 different stories that all weave together. Its kind of like Pulp Fiction in that it doesn't start at the beginning and go to the end. It tells the stories one by one but not chronologically. It makes it fun to watch again and again to notice things in the background which you wouldn't have noticed the first time. I had rented this movie last year around Halloween and decided this year that I had to own it. My wife and I have decided to make it a Halloween tradition to watch this every ...

  • Tricked NOT Treated

I saw the preview of this movie on a trailer before watching 300. I did some research on line. I found the movie have 4 out of 5 stars from different critics. They clearly have a different outlook on movies. From the opening part of the movie, I felt it was gonna be lame. The hot chick bends over and then the boy friend goes inside to watch porn while she is out on Halloween night taking down the Halloween decorations. This apparently makes "Sam" "The Creepy Bag Head" upset enough to kill her. This kind of sets up the rest of the movie for failure. The 6 year old little boy "Peeping" in the ladies changing room..? I guess they were using the "Tails From the Crypt" style writing format to make all these different story lines to connect. I can't say I found any part of the movie to be better ...
