Keeping Up Appearances -- Great DVD's
I purchased the set for my husband, as he is a big fan of Keeping Up Appearances. As of now, we have watched only 2 of the DVD's in the set of 8, but enjpoy them thoroughly. The one DVD, #4 entitled "Deck the Halls" were all 4 shows that we had not seen before, and were apparently "specials". The rest we have pretty much seen on PBS, but still thoroughly enjoy them. The DVD's also have "outtakes" on them, and it is fun to see Hyacinth Bucket(Bouquet) as a normal person who can flub a line and laugh at it. As soon as we have a chance, we will be watching the remaining DVD's. (There are 8 DVD's in the set and they include all of the Keeping Up Appearances shows). If you have never seen Keeping Up Appearances, the main characters included are: Hyacinth, who is a "high society wannabe", but unfortunately for her, she is very middle class -- but she won't admit it! Richard, her poor, long-suffering, henpecked husband, who will every once in a while stand up to her, and in his own way, mocks her. Daisy and Onslow --Daisy is Hyacinth's sister and is about as low class as they come. She is very enamored with her husband, Onslow, who is lazy, unkempt, jobless, and unromantic. He wears a sweater vest without a shirt under it most of the time. Rose, Hyacinth's sister who is always enamored with ANY man, single or married. She lives with Daisy and Onslow. Elizabeth and Emmet, Hyacinth and Richard's next door neighbors, who try to avoid Hyacinth, but Hyacinth will not be avoided. Elizabeth spills coffee every time she is at Hyacinth's because she is so nervous when around Hyacinth. The Vicar and his wife, who along with everyone else, wants to avoid Hyacinth's company. Violet, Hyacinth's sister who is very wealthy and Hyacinth never misses a chance to tell anyone and everyone about her sister, the wealthy one, who "has a Mercedes, swimming pool, and room for a pony." Only problem is, Violet's husband is a cross-dresser, and they argue all the time. We don't see as much of Violet as we do the rest of her family. Sheridan is Hyacinth and Richard's son, who we hear about in every episode ("Sheridan would be appalled") and he is always calling home for money, but we have never seen him. The combination of all these people and some others who are not such main characters makes this one of the funniest shows I've seen. I would highly recommend it. Even my grandkids enjoy watching it!

Keeping Up with the Buckets (It's Bouguet)
This DVD set contains all the episodes from all five series. You get plenty of out takes, cast bios and a commercial for Great Briton's "Second Chance" program that finally lets Elizabeth say no to coffee at Hyacinth's. It's all PG rated fun, with a very few curse words sprinkled throughout. Patricia Rutledge is a brillient physical comedian. Her portryal of an upper crust "wanna-be" could have been campy and cruel, but she gives Hyacinth just enough humanity to keep her on the lovable side. (Alright, tolerable.) Her encounters with her crisps loving brother-in-law Onslo, her balmy Daddy and long-suffering neighbor Elizabeth will make you laugh and then thank your lucky stars you won't be getting an invitation to a "candle-light supper" any time soon.This DVD set contains all the episodes from all five series. Keeping Up Appearance, the complete series
I used to watch this show on the BBC. I would catch it every now and then. I really enjoyed the humor in the program and loved all the characters. I checked out BBC's website. They had the complete set but it was on backorder and it was also more expensive. Luckily, a seller had the set for about twenty dollars less. So, believe it or not, EBAY still has the best prices around. KEEPING UP APPEARANCES is very "grown up humor" and not the silly stuff that you see on American TV these days. It's a show that is for all ages and all groups of people...very funny. With this set, I can watch all of the episodes that were made without having to rely on BBC for constant reruns. The majority of the episodes in this set I have never seen. It's very convenient to insert the CD into the D ... I used to watch this show on the BBC. I would catch it every now and then. All 8 DVD's Keeping Up Appearances
My sister, Robin, got me hooked on these and all I can say is "Thank you Robin." Hyacinth Bucket has to be one of the funniest ever. Climbing the social ladder is the focus of her life and no matter what her circumstances, her every move is with that goal in mind. Richard, her husband, is hysterical in his own way. He is totally resigned to the fact that Hyacinth is in her own world and that his easiest course of action is to follow her directions, no matter how ridiculous they may be. Their son, Sheridan, is never seen in the show. He calls frequently (Hyacinth has convinced herself, while trying to convince everyone else that she and Sheridan are very close and have a pyschic bond), but the phone calls are always for money. Hyacinth has 3 sisters..all four of the sisters are named after a flower. Violet is wealthy with a most unusual marriage, but Violet gives Hyacinth an opportunity to boast over one sister's position. Rose goes between threatening suicide to chasing every man in the community. Her skimpy outfits and sexy overtones are always an upset to Hyacinth. There is one scene with the vicar looking as though he is running for his life to get away from her...absolutely hysterical. Daisy is the last sister...married to the lovable Onslow. Onslow, enjoys life, sits is his chair with beer in hand watching the horse races on television. His rather hairy body is always exposed by his daily dress of the sleeveless undershirts. He thinks that he was lucky to get the only sane sister...as they live in their delapidated home in the midst of really bad housekeeping and the chaos of the live-in sister, Rose. Next door to Hyacinth and Richard are Elizabeth and her brother Emmett. Neither can stand up to Hyacinth, Elizabeth turns into all thumbs and nerves in her presence. But, Hyacinth is truly funny..to see her decked in the best every day...yet, falling out of a boat, running in her heels trying to hold on to a getaway dog by the leash, etc. just shows the range of this character and the lady that plays her. I have to own this complete set to save all the money I would have spent renting it over and over. The show is incredible..a top-notch comedy. My only sadness is the that the series did not run longer. BRING IT BACK!!!!!!

Keeping Up Appearances - The Full Bouquet: Series 1-5 (
Worth every penny, whatever the cost. If you want to laugh until your sides ache at good, fun humor that was skillfully written, acted, directed, and produced, then this is the series for you. The only negative thing about these shows is, that there isn't 200+ more of them. But, then, I probably would laugh myself into the hospital, or totaly well, over any more of these hillarious episodes. If I was to rate this series on a scale from 1-5, I would give it a 20. It is THAT funny. In fact, it is one of those rare shows, like "Green Acres", "The Beverly Hillbillies", or "Star Trek", that you can watch 100 times, and still find great enjoyment and humor in.Worth every penny, whatever the cost. If you want to laugh until your sides ache at good, fun humor that was skillfully written, acted, directed, and produced, then this is the series for you.
