the movie itself was a disappointment
For what it is, and from that time, it's a very interesting film, and well acted - but the characterizations in the story itself are rather over the top romanticized and melodramatic. I'd been wanting to see this movie for decades, having heard the barest bones of the story, because the concept of Death removing himself from his "duties" and people not being -able- to die is so amazing - BUT there's hardly anything about -that- in the story! - weird, to me. (The VHS tape came very quickly, well packaged, and was a decent deal - so -that- was great!)For what it is, and from that time, it's a very interesting film, and well acted - but the characterizations in the story itself are rather over the top romanticized and melodramatic. Death Takes a Holiday
Basically, this movie portrays Death as an entity who has become frustrated with humanity's fear of him and wants to know why. He visits & interacts with a family, in human guise, to find out. Along the way he learns about loneliness and love. For any Fredric March fan or film-lover of this era who missed this, this is a must see! Also highly reccomended for anyone who saw Meet Joe Black. (Get the hint?) I bought this movie because it is the very first movie I remember seeing, and because each time I saw it I liked it more. This is a fairly rare movie, as I was unable to obtain it even through inter-library loan. However, I was fortunate that an ebay seller was willing to part with a copy at a fair price. Death Takes A Holiday
"Meet Joe Black" was based on this 1934 classic, and it was worth remaking. Death takes a holiday was a film worth watching and I know that we will watch it again, as it is now a part of our video library.

Good Acting Takes a Holiday
This movie is worth a look just because the acting is so bad, it makes you laugh. You have to forgive the actors becuase this was done almost at the very biggining of cinimintagraphy. And the story line isn't TOO bad.
