A lot of bang for the buck!
I have many Samsung products: a Blu-ray player, a TV and a Galaxy S4 cell phone in addition to the DVD-C500. This DVD player upscales [upconverts] the image via the HDMI digital output which improves the video quality compared to the analog outputs. This player has component and composite video outputs in addition to the HDMI output which makes it possible to connect it to any TV. The reason I rated this player 4 instead of 5 stars is because the audio drops out on the chapter markers via the HDMI output, but that does not happen via the analog audio output. I've purchased 2 of these players thus far, 1 for a friend, and will be purchasing another one soon for another friend. good player, has been reliable and worth what I paid
I have played a lot of DVD's on it have have only had problems something like 2 times. It glitched on the upconverting feature and the image and started giving a bit of unleveled (every other line was slightly off center) lines on the screen. This only happened when I was skipping around on the DVD. I hit next chapter and then back and it was back to normal. It never did it during normal play though. I like that it has the adjustable size for the screen, this way when you do something like record a show and it was shown in widescreen, but sent out on 4:3 aspect, you can stretch the screen up and down along with side to side so the picture is not so distorted. My other upconverting DVD player only stretches it sideways. Overall, it has been very reliable and have had almost no problems. ... Love the remote control and functions
After installing this unit, you literally never have to touch the DVD player because the remote control has all functions on it, including eject. The digital display is at a decent brightness and good color, green, as not to be distracting. Also, I searched this unit out because the remote control will control Samsung brand TV's, which is what I have, along with my mother. Easy to set up and use. Good picture quality if you use 1080. You have options for lesser quality image if you wish. Remote buttons are hard to read, and the ink on the buttons wears off very fquickly.
