Product Information

Canon's venerable GL2 camcorder has proven itself to be tough, durable, and capable over years of service, lauded for both its image quality and resistance to the abuse it can take in the field. A Standard Definition camera, it uses primarily MiniDV tapes rather than flash memory. This makes it a good option for those wandering in marginal parts of the world where more delicate electronics might not hold up. It can also record onto SD or MMC cards, giving you a number of media choices. While the minicassettes may not be as compact as memory cards, they are tiny enough to pack dozens along if need be, and each will hold from 80 to 220 minutes of video, depending on the speed you choose. It records both light and sound in digital format, so editing is as easy (or not) as you're used to.

    GL2 Pro

    Fantastic product!! Arrived as advertised. Great screen resolution. Excellent camera for my music video production. Numerous accessories to enhance the camera itself. The 20x zoom is crisp, clear, and vibrant. The unit comes with two lens attachments for reduced glare and extra focus. The microphones (L and R) really bring out the surround sound feeling during playback. Forgot about the level of technology at that time, bummed out about the SD card max is 8GB, however, I can hook it up to my computer while recording or attach an external drive for digital storage or I can use the cassette tape for recording. Overall, extremely satisfied with my purchase. Definately a quality product 20 years later and still holds strong against 2022 technology - mind blowing!

    Purchasing the GL2 was totally satisfying. I love the little darling.

    I was shooting the Ms Senior Nye county, Nevada Pageants and their other performances with a nice but home quality video camera that was Ok under perfect conditions but lacking under other. Needed something better. I reasearched many of the Panasonic, Sony and Canon series, on ebay, including the X, V, L and G and settled on the GL2, for most 'Bang for the Buck', including performance and ease of use. I particularly like the max lux of .37 and the color quality. Many of the shoots are indoors with poor lighting conditions and the GL2 does very well. I had an opportunity to use the XL1 indoors and the GL2 out performed it for low light picture quality. I then monitored the sales and bidding on the Gl2 for 2 months to help determine what I should pay for quality and quanity... ...

    Workhorse camera with high quality and relatively low cost. I'll buy more.

    I have found that the Canon GL 2 is easy to use and easy to train people who are inexperienced with technology to use, as well. It has more features than most people will need, and operates with excellent quality without going to really expensive cameras. Of the three I bought, two did not have the output cord. If you need one, don't buy the really cheap cord. They just don't work. Get the real one and save your aggravation. I don't use the battery, so couldn't rate battery life.

    Great Camcorder

    This camera, from the first time i saw it i loved it. All the features it has is all that i wanted, especially not using the tape and recording to a pc and having full control over your recording. I bought this camera for a couple months now but haven't been able to use it because i had to order the other part of the power cord to go into the camera and am working on a portable power pack because i need it for mobile use. One thing with the camera the video screen turns upside down after a while when am watching from the back but when i push it all the way to the side of the camera it's back to normal so i don't know if i have to do something in the menu to fix it but the camera is a great piece and i look forward to using it to do all my videos for church and part time jobs.     GREAT VALUE / QUALITY RATIO, WOULD BUY AGAIN!

    I purchased this camera to use as a project cam for our church. The versatility and good fame the GL2 is what made me decide this was the one to buy. I like the extreme portability and the all the features the camera packs. 3CCD was a big check on my list when shopping for cameras. It delivers about 480p quality with it's Mini DV format, plus the DV (IEEE 134) in/out is prime for digital editing purposes. Perhaps is not Full HD definition quality (1080p) but if you know how to work your camera and your editing, you get great professional broadcasting results. The GL2's price tag in comparison with other models makes it an almost flawless contender. If found in good used conditions on eBay, then the price is just unbeatable.
