Aided by gadgetry whiz Dex Dearborn (Giovanni Ribisi) and enigmatic military commander Franky Cook (Angelina Jolie), Joe and Polly must find out who is responsible for an increasingly elaborate scheme that may trigger the end of the world.A highly stylized, mostly computer-generated spectacle, SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW is a striking cinematic achievement. Steeped in the marvelous visuals of 1930s pop culture, Conran's movie is a loving tribute to that era, featuring clever nods to FLASH GORDON, BUCK ROGERS, and other adventure serials of the time. Beginning in a gloriously slate-gray, towering New York City, this movie follows its heroes from one intriguing locale to the next. Although the remarkable images of the film threaten to eclipse the characters at times, SKY CAPTAIN is very well cast, with the actors pitch-perfect for their respective roles, particularly the luminous Paltrow and the brainy Ribisi. And yet the stunning retro-futuristic design is always at the fore, making for a wonderfully unique movie.

    Visually stunning!

    This movie is a feast for the eyes. Done in a retro 40's SF (that's "speculative fiction", not "science fiction") style, it has a good tight story line similar to those used on the old Flash Gordon serials. Dark and forboding at times, bright at others, lots of things you just have to say "WOW" as you see them unfold on the screen. This is the kind of movie you turn down the lights and watch on the 50" plasma to get the full effect from. Jude Law carries the role of the title character well. Gwenneth Paltrow is gorgeous as a retro 40's newspaper reporter. Angelina Jolie's role is little more than a cameo, even though she's on the screen quite a bit towards the end of the film.     Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

    I'm a little disappointed! I was really hoping for a least one gratuitous nude scene between Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow. Just kidding! Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is a unique movie that was filmed to look like an old fashioned 30's flick. Decent special FX and an interesting storyline. I did enjoy this movie! Although... it sure would have been heck of a lot better if those two lovely ladies did that gratuitous nude scene I mentioned earlier.. LOL! Yeah, come on now, admit it! you're smiling just think'in about it now. Don't lie. Don't you hate all those other lame and boring reviews most people write?

    Fun film with good eye candy that's safe for kids

    I'll admit, I am a sci fi fan and really enjoy a great film, sci fi or not. I've seen a number of sci fi films and found too many lack a strong plot, are packed with foul language or the mediocre acting or CG distracts from the story. This moview was well casted, well written, and offers good eye candy. I base a movie's success on whether or not it can make me forget where I am for 90 minutes by transporting me into the world on screen - which Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow did. This is a very entertaining and charming film, a bit scary for very little ones, but not loaded with profanities preventing a family movie night.     Adventure likers

    This movie reminds me of the old serial movies that were of the 50's at the local movies. You have to be an adventure enthusiast to enjoy it.

    The best movie you never saw

    I first heard of this movie when I saw LOTR: The Return of the King December of '03. I was stunned. It was 1930s retro sci-fi, art deco. Everything you saw was like a Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers serial, or the Max Fleischer animated shorts. Then it was delayed. Then delayed again. Then it was released in September, which is like putting something direct-to-dvd. Hardly anyone saw it and within a few weeks it was out of theaters. For this I blame the studio. There was hardly any marketing or tie-ins or promotion. I saw it opening night and the theater was only about half-full. Sigh.
