Product Information

Now a major motion picture-"An intimate portrait of mental illness, of atrocious social neglect, and the struggle to resurrect a fallen prodigy." (Mark Bowden, author of Black Hawk Down ) This is the true story of journalist Steve Lopez's discovery of Nathaniel Ayers, a former classical bass student at Julliard, playing his heart out on a two-string violin on Los Angeles' Skid Row. Deeply affected by the beauty of Ayers's music, Lopez took it upon himself to change the prodigy's life-only to find that their relationship has had a profound change on his own life.

  • The Soloist

This is a true story about a man who is a musical genius, who just happens to have a mental illness. As we were reading the story the author writes so well you feel as though you are right there in the story, and experiencing every moment. I look forward to reading other Steve Lopez books.

  • The product was in excellent condition.

I bought the book because I saw the movie and loved it. However, I am hard of hearing and could not hear all the words and comments in the movie. I want to know what was said so I can reap the full benefits of the story. Thank you.

  • Thank you for getting the book to my friend on time.

The book was great. I want to tell more people about it. My friend wanted to read it, so I bought it for her to have. I knew that I would get a better price buying it through E-Bay.

  • Amazing

Great movie- so I am sure the book will be wonderful too. Really compelling story! Would recommend to anyone. What Lopez fostered with Mr. Ayers is really amazing. He is someone we can all learn from
