À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Hollywood studios are notorious for liberally borrowing ideas from each other, with the resulting clutch of similarly-themed films often bewildering the public as they try to decide which movie to go and see. In 2005 Bennett Miller directed CAPOTE, an Oscar-winning dramatization of Truman Capote's traumatic experiences writing the celebrated novel IN COLD BLOOD. In 2006 Douglas McGrath (COMPANY MAN) directed INFAMOUS, a movie that follows exactly the same premise. Although it's difficult to see why such a story would need to be immortalized in celluloid for a second time, McGrath does throw in a few tricks to help separate the two films. Talking head interviews with some of Capote's contemporaries, such as Gore Vidal and Babe Paley, are used, and the movie has a lighter--almost comedic at times--feel to it than Miller's movie. The basic premise of INFAMOUS is exactly the same as that of CAPOTE, so we witness Toby Jones's Capote traveling from New York to Kansas, settling into the town, interviewing the murderers, and developing an obsession with one of them--Perry Smith (Daniel Craig). Despite the similarities, salvation can be found in the performance of Jones, who lights up the screen with a performance that closely rivals Philip Seymour Hoffman's turn as the infamous author. Other notable appearances come from Sandra Bullock, who just about manages to nail Harper Lee; Sigourney Weaver and Isabella Rossellini, who both camp up their roles as socialites; Jeff Daniels as the detective who befriends Capote; and Gwyneth Paltrow, who makes a brief appearance as the singer Peggy Lee.

  • GEORGE PLIMPTON'S TRUMAN CAPOTE: A MORE FULL PERSONA

The motion pictures "Capote" (2005) & this one, "Infamous," are not based on the same books! "Infamous" (2007) is based on George Plimpton's (2006) book "Truman Capote: In Which Various Friends, Enemies, Acquaintances and Detractors Recall His Turbulent Career." Plimpton's text attempts & succeeds to intimately know Truman Capote from those who were closest to the man & his literary genius. Taking advantage of Plimpton's approach, Douglas McGrath (director) is able to capitalize on this by having actors perform Plimpton's interviews. There is no difference, however, in that both "Capote" & "Infamous" are ultimately about Capote's research & writing that went into his masterpiece, "In Cold Blood." Capote's book is the true story about a brutal mass murder of a family in their Kansas ...

  • A Real Sleeper worth watching!!

Did not expect to see a movie about Truman Capote worth my time but the cast was excellent so bought it and loved it. Sandra Bullock as Harper Lee who wrote To Kill a Mockingbird was a real treat as Truman's dear friend and a collection of almost cameos of the columnists from the 50s. Truman wants to write a non-fiction book which later became In Cold Blood. Daniel Craig plays Perry Smith as one of the killers telling his story to Truman while listening to his stories about famous movie stars. Toby Jones plays the INFAMOUS Truman deserving of an Oscar because he truly nailed the role enthralling the down home folks of this little town in Kansas and then penning the masterpiece best seller. Like a book you can't put down this movie is that and more.

  • Infamous DVD

Thourghly enjoyed this version of Capote. The one with Phillip Seymour Hoffman was good, but I think Toby Jones did a much better performance as Capote. Much more believable. I am also a huge fan of Daniel Craig and loved his performance also. I think he could have been nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. His time is coming for an Oscar for sure. I actually did not have any dislikes with the DVD, and that's the reason I purchased it. I highly recommend getting a copy to see. This version went much deeper into each of the characters, and of how the killings took place, and how each of their lives were involved around the entire incident. Excellent portrayal of the book, characters, and great locations shots also. Get a copy, you'll enjoy it.

  • A True Perspective on Truman Capote!

I have been priviledged to see "Tru", the play. Then saw "Capote", the movie, which was very good. And finally, saw "Infamous." Of all of these portrayals of Truman Capote, this one is the very best and most complete. The movie is done in an artistic manner, and shows the shadow side of this very complex and "slighly vicious" writer. Truman Capote was in essence a true user of information for his own benefit, and lost all his abilities after his involvement with Perry (one of the murderers) from his novel/account In Cold Blood. Truman is shown in this movie in all of his dimensions, and every one is portrayed humanly, humorously and with tremendous artistic value. I would recommend anyone who is interested in this writer, and saw the previous film "Capote" to watch this extraordinary film. ...

  • Best Historical Movie Ever

I have been wanting to buy this movie for a long time.I wanted to see Sandra Bullock play Harper Lee,one of my all time fav writers, and solve the mystery of why, after Mockingbird, she never wrote another book.Of course,Toby Jones plays the flambuoyant Capote with flair and elan. This was a tumultuous, historical time in the 1960's,and the murder that Capote chose to write about, making him wealthy and famous, was the talk of the literary world. His decision to publish his story, rather than use his wealth and power to free one of the murderers, whom he was in love with, says a lot about his character and the unstoppable quest for power and fame.I recommend this movie for all movie buffs and baby boomers who remember these events.
