Great price, great sound! Skip the CSX model and go for the X!
I bought this unit after reading online comparitive reviews with more expensive units like apogee rosetta, lavry blue, etc.. and decided I wanted a good quality interface without taking out a 2nd morgage on the house. The unit is solidly built, with the exception of the 2 master rotary knobs which are plastic, and feel cheap. Installation was fairly straight forward (running on Win 7 x64), though I did have to download a new version of MR Tools in order to get it running. Sound quality is good. The converters are clear and smooth. The preamps are good also - they really shine on vocals and acoustic guitar. We tried running a Marshal JMP1 into this though, and it didn't sound that great. My only real gripe is with the Rev-X and Compressor - you can only run 1 instance of Rev-X reverb at ... I would certainly buy this item again if this one broke, although I'd save some money and go for the X model only, and just use a good reverb and compressor plugin, where you not limited to a certain number.

Steinberg CSX is an AMAZING value with excellent pres and solid integration
This Steinberg Interface is just great. It is so reasonably priced for the range of function and the quality of sound is just exceptional in this range. I own 3 Steinberg 816 two being X and one CSX. They work flawlessly together, integrate with Cubase seamlessly and they are easy and intuitive to use. The set ups were up and running in an hour and both the A/D and the D/A are both in my opinion superior to my previous set up with RME fireface 800 which I really liked as well, but the sound of the Steinbergs even at a lower price are superior to my ears. The pres are clear and have depth to them. The DSP is great and find several usable sounds. This is just a very high quality rig that I think I will be using for several years to come. At 96kHZ I feel I get better recordings, than ... This Steinberg Interface is just great. Tons of options
The unit can be used standalone or as an extention to an existing DAW setup. Built in DSP which takes some of the pressure off of DAW CPU.

MR816csx functions better than expected
Easy setup works great with Cubase 6.5 and integrates easily into my older projects. I have 4 different audio interfaces and really think this one is top notch.If you use Cubase this is a great choice
