Chic Sci Fi classic thriller by Michael Crichton
In the writer/director's commentary on the 2007 DVD release explains that at the time this film was made these type of topics weren't dealt with in movies. The movie when it was released in 1981 it was science fiction however now it is science fact, passe technology. It is about how several models (including Susan Dey-Partridge Family & LA Law) wanted to be perfect to enable them to do more commercials. So they ask a famous CA plastic surgeon (Albert Finney) to cut on their nearly perfect faces and bodies to match precise computer measurements that would increase their viewability in commercials. It does have some nudity and shows many beautiful models, scantily clad. It is a classic sci fi movie for all Michael Crichton fans of his books or movies. When I saw this ... When I saw this movie back in the early 80s I really liked it and remembered it 27 years later. It focuses on how people especially women think they need to be perfect to feel loved, appreciated and valued. As if, they have nothing to offer society except their good looks. It shows, in the Susan Dey character, how lonely a person can be even after they are modified to be perfect; it doesn't increase their self-cofidence. Even Susan Dey's parents ignore her when she is in desparate need of their support. THis theme is still relevant today in society. The company who has given the models the measurements to be perfect is tied to a wealthy entrepreneur played magnificently by James Coburn and run by Leigh Taylor-Young, who portrays a wonderful villianess. The girls' bodies are scanned into the computer to use in any way the programmer wants to use them in many types of commercials. The high tech company has also developed a Looker device, which uses light technology to hypnotize the victim causing them to loose time and not know what happened to them during the missing time. The women, who had been made perfect by the plastic surgeon, begin dying and he makes it his mission to protect the last model (Susan Dey) from the same fate. The movie explores how people end up watching one year's worth of commercials in their lifetime and how powerful that media really is. Crichton observes most people spend their lives in front of a screen-a computer at work and a TV at home. If a company had the technology to implement a type of hyponotic suggestive message in it's commercials; like subliminal suggestion but with a computer technological based factor to make the individual keep watching the commericial and then be made to go buy the item through optical means. Now the study is called nural advertising; showing where a viewer's eyes are concentrated. Nowdays, this technology is second nature but back then it was on the cutting-edge. It is still a very enjoyable and interesting film with great directing, acting, writing and cinematography.

Looker - A Sci-Fi Classic !
This is a really good, easy to watch movie with an interesting plot involving hi-tech (for the time) and beautiful models, some of whom actually have brains and are key to the plot! The Looker gun is simply a larger, earlier version of the "Flashy Thing" pen device used in the "men in Black" movies to erase recent memories. All the actors do a great job in this innovative movie based on a book written by Sci-Fi genius Michael Crichton, who also directed. The only thing I dislike at all is the, to me, somewhat monotonous synth music in the later half of the movie, which at the time was probably geek and/or stoner heaven. Once upon a time
Movie covers technology which, at the time, was "yet to come". Deals with the use of computers to alter features for ads including subliminal suggestion type techniques. Premise that an attractive actress used in an ad would be killed once her physical image was captured seems unlikely.

1980 Michael Crichton sci fy thriller
Way ahead of cgi images. A corporation uses computer simulations of models, to make subliminally enhanced commercials, then kills the origionals, who are no longer necessary Also uses flashing laser light gun to stun victims. Unique.

A interesting watch
Might not go down as one of the classics, but one that I seen years ago and enjoyed watching again and will watch again another time. Would recommend to others to watch as well. Susan Day gave a weak acting performance but am able to look past that, not sure why someone picked her.
