Product Information

The sequel to King of the Monsters, King of the Monsters 2 features more monsters, more levels and a new type of character, the minor fighter aliens, who pester you as you do battle. As in the first game, you control a monster who fights other monsters one at a time using methods from various wrestling and fighting games.<br><br>The colorful variety of monsters includes: Huge Frogger, a reptilian alien; Eifflelyte, a fierce mutant warrior; Claw Head, a crabby fusion of an assortment of creatures; Beetle Master, a super insectoid; Aqua Slug, a slimy sea creature; and Lavicus, a levitating alien maker. You get to choose from three fighters: Super Geon, a Godzilla look-alike; Atomic Guy, an armor-plated scientist; and Cyber Woo, a super robot built for war.<br><br>While fighting monsters, you'll also have to ward off heavily armed humans who are trying to regain control of the Earth. They come at you in submarines, tanks and fighter planes. You'll do battle in such exotic locations as the Grand Canyon, Tokyo, the desert and France. A two-player mode allows you and a friend to each pick a monster and go at it head-to-head, or the two of you can team up against the computer.

Nostalgic arcade style game with coop and vs modes
King of the Monsters 2 is a great title if you loved the arcade gaming and SNES era, but I probably wouldn't suggest buying it otherwise. The story line is ridiculous (loosely akin to the latest Monsters vs Aliens movie/game series), but that isn't why anyone would play KOTM2. Instead, one might buy KOTM2 to experience the simple side scrolling arcade game that it is. In short: In KOTM2 the player plays the role of an 'Earthly' monster with the goal of destroying the alien invaders. Three characters are available - a dragon, a large 'Atomic Man', and a giant mechanical monkey - with differing attacks and special moves, but they are practically the same. There are 7 or so levels which include some generally attractive-nostalgic artwork, but there isn't anything incredibly impressive about ... The music is enjoyable enough, but I'm a nut for video game music and I'd understand if other people would find it annoying. Anyways, it's usually a cheap buy and I'd suggest it to early SNES or arcadee gaming fans. However, that said, as an arcade game - the game difficulty was constructed to make gaming arcades money. Bosses are difficult and fight with cheap knock-down moves, lives run out quick (continues are available), and the combat can be frustrating. 7/10

Good game, first KOM was better
I like this second installment of the King of Monsters game. Though it got away from the king of the ring style wrestling game and is now more of a side scroller beat em' up game. Still fun, but not quite what o was expecting from the first game. I say, if you can get it for under $15 go ahead and pick it up.
