Players strap-on their virtual revolvers and step back into America's "Wild West" in Call of Juarez, a first-person shooter with a gritty cowboy theme. The single-player storyline follows a pair of gunslingers, bound to one another by family ties but at odds due to a gruesome misunderstanding. The righteous Reverend Ray McCall has come out of retirement to hunt down his own nephew, Billy Candle, for murdering his family. Innocent but framed for the crime, Billy must seek the true killers while avoiding his uncle's mighty vengeance.<br><br>Stages in which players take the role Reverend Ray feature rollicking gunfights, quick-draw showdowns, and other classic Western action. Billy's story features more adventure-styled gameplay, with exploration, horseback riding, stealth scenes, and environmental puzzles. Both characters have opportunity to interact in famous scenes from Old West legend, including a shootout with the notorious Billy the kid. Call of Juarez is built on a version of Techland's own Chrome game engine, designed to create large open spaces full of realistic Old West detail.

Call of Jaurez : Fun FPS, just not AMAZING
Graphics When the game started I was very impressed with the graphics. Had me thinking of Oblivion, but not quite as good. Then I noticed time of day does not pass. Each episode has its own time of day. If the episode takes place during the day or night, you can stand there forever and it will always remain either day or night. Very good lighting effects. Hiding at night only to be spotted when lightning strikes was very cool. Great kill animations, lots of blood and dead body physics. Quickly though you reach interiors, and I am not talking about inside buildings. I am talking about caves and such. The textures in these underground areas are very plain and practically all the same. Floors blend in with walls and ceilings. Gameplay Standard FPS stuff, done it all before so I will ... Gameplay Standard FPS stuff, done it all before so I will only list the problems I encountered. Jumping is weird. Jumping on a box or a ledge parallel to you is fine. Jumping up to climb a ledge is not very smooth. Sometimes it took me like 3 or 4 tries to do it. And trying to do it during a gun fight, not recommended. Picking up stuff is also not that smooth. Some stuff you have to get so close to and other stuff you can pick up without standing right on top of it. You can pick up boxes and crates and barrels, even some sort of wicker baskets can be interacted with. The only time this has ever come into practice for me is when your progress is halted and you MUST build some sort of stepping apparatus to continue on. Otherwise, no need to ever pick up these types of items, though they are all over the place. Using your whip as a swinging device fells very generic. It is almost like a point and click adventure game trying to find the exact spot to whip your whip. Hmmm... Enemy A.I is ok. They take cover, which fps game these days do they not do that. Sometimes though they will stand right in front of you while they load their weapon. Right out in the open. Not too smart. The hardest time I had was that in certain areas it is very difficult to find exactly where your enemy is (talking about SP, not MP). They are shooting at you but its hard to pick up the direction of the bullets. And you will spin the camera around everywhere trying to find who it is. Now this does make the game challenging and I am all for that but I would have liked a little more information to help me find them. Such as being able to decipher bullet direction via what you see. And listening intently on my 5.1 audio for the sound direction of fire. Even though someone is shooting behind you, I never just heard it on my rear speakers, instead I heard it on all of them. It is also kinda strange that you control 2 characters yet they do not share their "special" abilities. Which basically means 1 character can climb up ledges and the other can not. 1 character can use a bow, but the other can not. 1 can hold their breath underwater and the other, you know. I just made that last one up... Seeing if the people who played the game to this point have read this far. Save points: sStrategically placed and not a problem. Overall The game is not bad. Yet it is not great. I do agree with scores anywhere from 7.0 to 8.5 on any review website which is to say some people will shift to the 7.0 side; thinking it is just 1 step up from a mediocre game. And people close to the 8.5 will think it is just 1 step down from a great, wish this becomes a new franchise, awesome game. Fun game, but just a 7/10 though for me.

Heed the Call!
The good: Good graphics, Nice control scheme,okay voice acting, 2 playable characters, one character is about run and gun, the other is about sneaking which adds some nice depth and change to this FPS, the ability to read the bible and shoot people (wtf?), a good story, great music that seems well times to what is going on in the game. nice story length. The Bad: Some of the platforming doesn't work well with an FPS game, Some levels are frustrating, good level design on most levels but some are boring, you die a little too easily even on easy mode, the sneaking of billy's character doesn't work as well as I'd hoped it would The ugly: the price point for this game seems a little high for what it is. Overall a good western themed game, but sometimes it feels a bit like they missed the ... Call of Juarez tries a different take on the first person genre by setting it in the old west; a welcome change from the typical si-fi/war themes that exist. The most striking feature of the game are its graphics and they are good. In particular, the lighting effects and high dynamic used makes everything seem more natural. Going beyond graphics and western setting, Call of Juarez is surprisingly average despite all the numerous minor additions to game play. For example, two protagonists that you alternate between, quick-draw matches with end bosses, ability to ride horses (even though they may be sparse). Ultimately the blame can be laid on the main story, which is not strong enough to set it apart from other shooters, and the level design, which again is not original/unique enough. ... There are exceptions, such as the part where you search for Juarez’s gold but most levels are quite bland. That it not to say this is a bad game, it is just an average shooter in an very crowded market. The single player campaign will keep players interested for its span. Ubisoft succeeds at another next-gen title
Ever since playing the game GUN I've looked forward to every Old West game. Red Dead Revolver, Dead Man's Hand, and Call of Jaurez. Out of all of them, Call of Juarez definitely stands out as having the best graphics. The beauty of the America is show everywhere. It also rely's heavily on story and acting. The acting is all well delivered. Ubisoft had a measure of success with the King Kong videogame, where you control two seperate characters at different points in the game. This same game concept was carried over to Call of Juarez. You play as Billy Candle, a young man on the run from the law, and Reverand Ray- a self-proclaimed "Preacher" turned gunfighter. The result is that the game alternates between very subtle and often tense stealth missions, and brutal first person shooting. The ... Reverand Ray quotes heavily from holy scriptures and calls himself "the right hand of God", and so forth. It's a very degrading attack on Christianity, which is all about peace and pacifism. Also other characters are very foul-mouthed and spout profanity freely. Even GUN was a cleaner game than this. Do not play this game around children. The game is fairly linear in accomplishing missions. It would have been nice to incorporate some free-roaming side missions. The length of the game is adequate, but leaves you desiring more. There are 4 bonus missions after completely the game, but it's still not enough. If you're a fan of Westerns, don't hesitate to get this game. But if you can't stand stealth, or want a more free-roaming experience, then keep waiting for GUN II.

First person shooter in the old west.
Call of Juarez is one of those easy to miss games that actualy has gameplay. The story is pretty thin but the action certainly makes up for it. The weapons are plentiful but the wear and tear of the guns happens unrealisticly too fast. The AI is good, spotting you from a distance, but apathetic to dead bodies (why can't we have the AI from No One Lives Forever?)It's no Red Dead Redemption but certainly not bad for the price. If you like this game, there is now a prequel to it. Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood.Call of Juarez is one of those easy to miss games that actualy has gameplay.
