The definitively violent Mortal Kombat fighting game series is re-invented on high-definition consoles in its ninth full production, a plainly titled release that both moves the supernatural combat action forward and returns it to its roots. Rendered in full 3D, the hand-to-hand battles play out strictly on a 2D plane, as in the original Mortal Kombat games for 16-bit consoles, emphasizing keenly timed blocks, counter-moves, and ranged attacks. More so than in any recent Mortal Kombat game, the fighting action is designed for true hardcore players, with each character presenting a deep system of special attacks to master and relative weaknesses to overcome. Each character can also execute a full-fledged fatality move, in classic MK form.<br><br>Leaving aside the inter-dimensional diversions of the most recent Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, the game's unusually involving single-player story begins after the events of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, but then returns to the events of the first three games to revisit the series' original lore. Gaining a trans-temporal awareness, the enigmatic thunder-god Raiden is central to the plot, but gamers take the roles of several different combatants as they progress through the campaign. In all, over two-dozen characters are playable in this edition of Mortal Kombat, each uniquely modeled and individually animated. Multiplayer fighting is thoroughly supported, in both same-console and online options, with a selection of competitive and cooperative modes.

They really brought back the blood and gore Mortal Kombat is known for!
This is by far the best Mortal Kombat game. HD graphics are stunning, gameplay is outstanding, and it's bloody. I was highly satisfied to see they went back to rated M blood and gore after a failed MK vs. DC Universe with no blood, crappy finishers, and T rating. They really brought the brutality back in this one. I also wish that they gave the Xbox 360 version an exclusive character since PS3 owners can play as Kratos, but other than that, no complaints gameplay wise. However, if you want to play online, BUY IT NEW! I found this out when I bought a used copy and tried to play a match on Xbox LIVE and it said to redeem a code, which is only with NEW conditioned games. If bought USED, you will need to buy online access for 800 Microsoft Points ($10). Overall, great game, but BE ... This is by far the best Mortal Kombat game. The best fighting game out there !
This game's reputation speaks for itself when it commes to two players! The graphics are great and so is the gameplay. I am very happy I found this game! Very satisfied with this purchase too!

Overall a great buy and worth the money for the content included.
Great game very similar to the old ones! It brings back the blood and gore of the old games as well as the 2D fighting area. This one includes a very detailed and deep story line that has you on the edge of your seat! The challenge tower never seems to end and has a myriad of fun and exciting challenges to take part in. Lastly online is great fighting against your friends or others over xbox live.Great game very similar to the old ones! Great Game Obviously but a few minor issues
The game itself played nicely aside from a few crashes when playing the story and towers. However I’m not sure if that’s cause of the game disc itself or just the game cause my case was also cracked when I received my copy. It runs smoothly when doing things like the krypt and when fight in a versus but sometimes I think the story mode becomes too much to handle and the game ends up crashing. Other than that I was still satisfied with my purchase and would hope that in the future my game cases come intact.The game itself played nicely aside from a few crashes when playing the story and towers. If you love the MK series, go ahead and buy it but don't expect magic.
I have been playing Mortal Kombat since it was released when I was a kid, and I can say this one is a 8/10 or maybe 8.5. I love the challenge tower, it is fun and good to keep your interest with random and sometime infuriating little tasks. The the story mode is seriously lacking. I read someone describe is as a B movie vibe, and I totally agree. It is nice to include a story mode period, however this one would have been better with a previous game's spin on it. I will say it is enjoyable to get some serious back story on some of the characters, but again, it doesn't compete with previous games. The regular fighting mode is solid, and since the game SERIOUSLY encourages you to learn fatalities, you will impress and entertain yourself/others. The Krypt is just what you would expect. The ...
