Product Information

Based on the video game from Rockstar, MAX PAYNE stars Mark Wahlberg as a New York City cop out to avenge his slain wife and child, and heaven help anyone who gets in his blood-strewn way. The trail leads him into a network of shady characters mixed up with an experimental drug that causes super strength and fearlessness, as well as wild hallucinations of winged angels and demons. As Max gets closer and closer to the truth, he finds himself the target of a massive police manhunt, and in the crosshairs of the powerful kingpin behind the racket; soon enough, the angels and demons become downright deadly. Olga Kurylenko (QUANTUM OF SOLACE) is a beautiful Russian party girl who winds up dead after a late-night visit to Max's pad; her assassin sister (Mila Kunis) first goes after Max, then tries to help him get some answers. Rap star Ludacris (here credited as Chris Bridges) is a tough internal affairs cop investigating Payne's behavior. Shot in an impressively grungy palette of high-contrast grays and blacks, with snow and sheets of rain soaking the grim atmosphere, New York City is brilliantly morphed into something like Gotham City by way of Detroit, with a touch of X-FILES-style supernatural dread looming over everything. Director John Moore knows how to stage his action scenes: offices blow up, big chunks of rubble crush police cars, bodies and shattered glass suspend in mid-air for some of the slowest slow-mo moments in action film history. Fans of the video game and/or action movies in general should get a kick out of all the mega-loud insanity, stylish design, and Wahlberg, who never changes his mean expression, but still commands the screen.

    Max Payne (blu-ray)

    I went into Max Payne thinking I was in for another disappointment when it comes to video games being brought to the big screen, I was wrong. I've played the game and I thought it was good. I loved the whole soldiers taking a liquid drug to make them feel invincible to the whoever they were at war with, which sometimes feels like that could be coming around the corner any day now. When the head bad guy starts acting like he's some kind of god from the drugs I started thinking "Can't wait till Payne kicks his Ass!" As a story, I think it is a clever mystery story including fabled occult beliefs from the Norse mythology and when Max starts seeing them after taking the drug to get to the bad guys is pretty friggin' sweet. I felt the film ended as good as any film noir could end after the ...

    It is at closest as you can get to the game!!!

    This movie is pretty good. Ii gave it 5 stars mainly for things like the special effects, also the fact that it is very appealing to the game by using the slow motion system for scenes that involves shooting and optical illusions that Max has. Even that the story starts after Max's wife and daughter are kill, the story is easy to follow and most of the time is similar to the history of the game. It is a good movie to buy. I really bought it on Blu Ray because of the upgrade in the visual and audio quality. Even that i own it on DVD, I decided to buy it on Blu Ray for the right price. I recommend you this movie if you like action movies but without all that macabre violence and gore, and also not so much, "trash mouth words".

    Stunning Film Many Twists Into Obsessive Investigation.

    Contrary to popular belief, Book and Game Characters totally Rock today and forever more. Max Payne (Mark Wahlberg), is the good cop turned bad (or just moody), that is, until we learn to hate to love him, that is. Bigger is better, and this is certainly as big as it gets in Tinseltown. Wow-eeeee.....! With the advent of multiple technological events culminating together at once, we all, most certainly, simultaneously witness the jump in high quality storytelling culminated in the comic book character's popularity mixed together the culmination of CGI technology and the superhero film genre. Before the story begins, we see a very dead Max Payne drowning one week after the untold story.     Try again..

    Not a big fan of Mark Wahlberg, but this movie was okay. Nothing to get out of your seat for, but worth watching once, especially in HD. This movie has a great picture in high-def, makes the movie a bit better. At times it reminds me of Sin City they way it was filmed. Outside of that there is really only a couple good action scenes, most memorable is when they remake the slow motion sequence that is in the video game. I was hoping the movie would be more grittier like the video game. But it was made at a PG-13 level - I assume so kids who actually play the game could enjoy watching it too. I would recommend renting this, but I wouldnt buy this on DVD.
