À propos de ce produit

Product Information

In the 1970s, Roland and partner decided to leave civilization and re-create the vanished simple life in the heart of Louisiana's million-acre Atchafalaya River Basin Swamp. This is the tale of the not-so simple life they made together--days spent fishing, trading, making wine, growing food, and growing up.

  • A Story unclear

I bought this book because I was watching my local PBS Station and I remembered when they previewed this, reading about this from "National Geographic" picture. I wanted to know more, as it was interesting to me then when I was a younger girl-(10-12). I loved the speceial on PBS, but thought it would be much better reading the book. What I liked: I liked the PBS SPECIAL A LOT--the book went with it--so I liked that. What I did not like was: But, I do not know if it is because she is now "born again" - or in deferrence to her husband--I feel the book leaves too much untold--too much missing--it feels too short, and even the man she lived with (not her husband--she explains) thought the books was too short. I know she is a good writer from previous readings of her work, and I know she has ...

  • Excellent

Book was destroyed by USPS in transit to me, so, I did not receive it. I had read it before and also enjoyed the LPB/PBS review of it. I recommend it highly!! I just did not receive the copy I bought and paid for!

  • Excellent read.

I'm a 57 year old man from Louisiana. Since 1983 I've lived in the "Lowcountry" of South Carolina. Mrs. Roland's book transported me back to the summers of my teenage years spent in, on and near the lakes, rivers and bayous of Louisiana. It's a great book to be savored in your leisure time OR when you need to escape and immerse yourself in a less hectic place and time. It took me back to Bayou Bartholomew, Horseshoe Lake, the Ouachita River and the Hangout. It took me back to summer days when we swam in such a muddy bayou that when we got out and dried off, we had to brush the dust off our bodies (really). I have to tell you, truthfully, I'm only half way through the book. Not because I don't love it; rather, I want to save some for later! Thank you Gwen Roland. chuckeew

  • FABULOUS buy

Wonderful! Saw the PBS special "Atchafalaya Houseboat" over a year ago and finally ordered the dvd from PBS as well as the book. Also purchased "Seasons of Light in the Atchafalaya Basin" and "Atchafalaya" by C.C. Lockwood. A truly unique window into an almost uninhabited wilderness area right here in America. Educational, inspiring, and filled with beautiful images.
