    COOL HAND LUKE (Stuart Rosenberg, 1967, USA) Lucas Jackson can’t escape: from tyrannical authority, cruel injustice, or himself and his own spontaneous nature. Imprisoned for damaging municipal property (drunkenly destroying parking meters) he is sent to a hard labor work camp…for two years!     Newman's great also is supporting cast

    In this classic Southern prison drama, social misfit Lucas "Luke" Jackson (Paul Newman) is incarcerated for a petty crime and sentenced to a chain gang. Luke is a sullen and laconic young man whose cool defiance of the sadistic warden and bullying inmates earns him the title "Cool Hand Luke." But as the prisoners' respect for Luke grows into hero worship, he finds that he must risk everything in order to live up to their expectations. Filled with dozens of memorable scenes (Luke eating 50 eggs) and quotable lines ("What we have here is a failure to communicate."), COOL HAND LUKE is a testament to excellent screenwriting (Donn Pearce and Frank Pierson) and Newman's charm and skill as an actor.     Luke looks great on Blu Ray

    Paul Newman, George Kennedy ,Harry Dean Stanton, Strother Martin and Jo Van Fleet in Cool Hand Luke look great and sound great on Blu Ray. Newman was one of the finest actors of all time. He makes it look so easy. What a great actor.

    A Classic

    I remember my Dad taking me to see this when I was much younger. It doesn’t get any better than Paul Newman and George Kennedy. It brought back many good memories. I think Newman was nominated for an Academy award. It’s a great portrayal of the Deep South back in the day.

    Cool Hand Luke

    Paul Newman gives an outstanding performance in this motion picture as a convict dealing with life on hard labor in the south. The real delight in this story is the performance by George Kennedy (who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor). Newman stands out in his role, however without the performance by Kennedy the movie would not have been the big hit that it was. Highly recommended for a great story line and wonderful, fun acting. Rated 5 of 5 - this movie belongs in everyones DVD collection.
