Product Information

With player input and a desire for realism, developers designed Settlers: Rise of an Empire to revolve around the seasons and environments of Earth. Gamers begin with acres of land and nothing more. They must command a group of workers to build roads and facilities that feed, clothe, protect, and entertain the people in town. Players choosing to live in a seasonal area must store food during the winter. Animals also suffer from extreme weather. On a map based in Africa, water is scarce and makes farming a difficult task, but over-hunting the population of gazelle and zebra can draw predators including lions.<br><br>Although time-limited play is available on a few campaigns, most objectives are based on efficiency and beauty. "Freeplay" is available for solo gamers, and in "Skirmish" mode, single-players can attempt to build a thriving economy and take the title king or queen in 60 missions. There are six different heroes to earn over the course of the game. Other towns exist in each level that gamers support but cannot control. Players may nourish or sever ties with any neighboring community by trading good and services, or by attacking the settlement with siege weapons. Multiplayer action is available through a LAN, supported by 15 levels and a map editor.

Eye-candy for the city builder
This is a great RTS game with a more elaborate city building element than can be found in most games in the same genre. I loved playing AoE but always felt the colony aspect was lacking. Settlers seems to be more focused around building a solid foundation for your people, your town, and then working up to a great army. I haven't dabbled much in the campaigns as I prefer to build up the town rather than have the objective to go and defeat the neighboring peoples. But occasionally I'll have my men wander out to small bandit camps and take them over. Those battles seem fairly easy if your city reputation is high but I can't say much for any other battles. Also, the graphics really impressed me! The townsfolk are really detailed, the scenery is beautiful and the animals meandering the ... I love the game and would recommend it for most ages, especially since you don't have to play campaigns and the young ones can have fun building a city!

Settlers- Rise of an Empire
This is not your commodore 64 or pc settlers3 of years ago. This is a completely new version with a much better storyline, while retaining the charm of the original. All of the quests are challenging, but you don't need cheats if you have half a brain. Graphics are great! Only one thing keeps me from giving it an excellent rating is the fact that it is rated for XP at 128mb video memory. It doesn't do the graphics very well on my HP desktop with 128 video memory. But it works great on my wife's HP laptop with Vista and 256mb video memory. Go figure.This is not your commodore 64 or pc settlers3 of years ago. Brilliant
I am amazed, once again Blue Byte has out done themselves. I am a settlers fan and hav been since the release of Settlers 1. I like the new structure of this game. You have more control and it is more realistic then settlers herrtage of kings. You have to feed and clothe your people and they won't eat raw meat. Which makes the whole thing more realistic. The graphics are amazing and Blue byte has out done themselves. I was impressed with the last settlers game that was released (H.O.K)but if you want an amazingly beatiful game then this is for you. I have not finished it yet but I'm hooked just like I was with the others. I can't really say I dislike anything, maybe this is because I am bias as I love all the settlers games and have even been know to dig out settlers 2 and give it a bash ... AFTER INSTALLING PROGRAM WAS ASK TO INSERT ORIGINAL DISK... WELL I THOUGHT THE DISK I ORDERED WAS THE ORIGINAL SO THE PROGRAM WILL NOT RUN!!!!!!!!!

Great fun for all ages
This game is really simple to understand. Not overly complicated and allows any age of player to enjoy it. Unlike Command and Conquer style strategy games, Settlers allows for more freedom and choices than just giving you a basic layout of the game to play. I played the crap out of this game and although the ending was pretty lame (dont get your hopes up for a thrilling Royal Exit) I think the rest of the game (especially the movies) were pretty cool!This game is really simple to understand.
