Product Information

One of Japan's best-selling role-playing game series makes its stateside debut on the PSP with the release of Generation of Chaos. Mixing strategy with kingdom building and character advancement, Generation of Chaos follows in the footsteps of such titles as Final Fantasy Tactics and Dragon Force, but with the ability to command an army of 30 characters in real time. The lead protagonist is Allen, who longs for peace in a world ravaged by war and civil strife. Players begin with a small and fledgling kingdom named Zodia and must try to expand its influence by conquering neighboring kingdoms or creating political allies. The belief is that peace can only come when the land is united, so players must engage in fierce battles against rival armies to ensure this noble goal. <br><br>Unlike most games of its type, Generation of Chaos does not involve controlling individual units in battle. Players instead issue global commands like "crush," "charge," and "wait" as the two armies automatically engage in combat. Before the battle commences, players can order their army to fight in a specific formation and purchase spells to heal, burn, summon lightning strikes, and more. In between battles, players will be able to explore the world on a board game-style map and expand their kingdom by making decisions in the areas of infrastructure, commerce, foreign relations, and military. While players begin with a variety of generals to choose from, each with distinct abilities, new leaders can be recruited to the cause and then outfitted with armor, weapons, items, and accessories to improve their army's effectiveness in combat.

The game that ends up in chaos
Generation of Chaos takes place in Lost Grounds, which is basically a large battle field where ten different kingdoms are locked in a violent power struggle. When you begin the game you can choose between only 2 different campaign modes. You can unlock other campaign modes through out the game by playing through both. When you first start either campaign you will be locked into a game that has a confusing menu interface and a steep learning curve of over 2 hours. The manual that comes with the game doesn't give much of any help in learning to play the game. Aside from the confusing interface you are faced with a weak battle system that doesn't allow you much control over the commander and the units. You will often find your commander stuck behind a unit and unable to attack until that ... The loading times are the worst I have seen so far out of any PSP game. This leads to slow battle scenes and frequent load times which make is stutter and lag constantly. The frequent noise that will come from your PSP while it is loading will be enough to turn you away. The only thing that was probably good but not great in this game would have to be the voice acting. Other than that it will take a person with a lot of patience to actually enjoy this game.

Other features include: Massive 30 vs. 30 real time army battles; Customizable troops and commanders; Freedom to fight with or against neighboring kingdoms. If you love strategy games, you should really enjoy this one. Some elements are very reminiscent of Civilization as well. Standard issue Fantasy Strategy.
Worked well enough for a fantasy turn-based strategy. It has some flaws, but I'm sure they're fixed up in the next game in the series. For what it's worth, it's fairly challenging, so you'll be gritting your teeth screaming, "I will not be defeated by this!"

Just wow!
This is a perfect strategy game. You need money to customize your city. You have many different story, one for each caracter. That's my favorite game with PSP. You have anything inside, strategy, role playing, action, decision. I really don't understand person who doesn't love this game.
