C-2100 Ultra Zoom
This is our third C 2100. First expired after falling into a lake, second is being over used by the two of us. So, we just purchased our third one off the net. It is great as a point and shoot camera. But, it is fantastic once you get used to all the features that are hidden in this little camera. Exposure and color balance on auto seems to handle any situation. Image stabilization takes all the shake and blurs out of any shot. 10X optical zoom (we never use the digital, but it is there) is the best of any camera we have owned. It is a 2.1 Megapixel but with the fantastic Olympus lens, we have produced excellent sharp 8 x 10 and 11 x 14 prints. My wife uses it for panorama photography. I have printed up to 8 x 60 inch in beautiful color. We have owned E-10's, E-20's (still do), ... This is our third C 2100. It uses the smart media card for memory and they are durable and easy to use. On camera flash is easy to program for fill, red eye prevention or full through the lens control. It has selectible control of aperture, shutter speed, manual focus or complete auto. Has a movie mode complete with sound recording in short bursts. I could continue, but you get the idea. Look for one. You won't find many for sale. Those of us that have them, keep them.

My C-2100 Ultra Zoom was my first serious digital camera. I mainly bought it because of the 10x zoom. What I didn't realize was that it has an enormous sensor compared to most fixed-lens digital cameras. The result is that the image quality is excellent, despite the fact that it's "only" 2.1 MP. It is an ancient camera in terms of electronics and processing power compared to today's cameras: small external LCD screen, max ISO of 400, slow start up. But, it has great optics and can take infrared photos using an infrared filter such as the Hoya 49mm Infrared RM72 Lens Filter. I bought a second C-2100 a few months ago so I could keep my baby running. (I had to take off the battery cover and eye cap to put on my wife's Oly E-100RS, another cult camera. Great for digital IR!
I bought this 2.1MP camera due to its high reputation for capturing digital-IR images. And its rep is JUSTIFIED! Rain storms rolled in this morning, as I took my first C-2100 IR shot though an opaque IR filter. Normally, the lack of sun would make for difficult IR shooting, but the resulting image was brighter and more clear than those from any other digital camera I've used. So if you're interested in doing digital IR, check out the Olympus C-2100. Only one thing I should mention. For digital IR, you really need to take this baby out of Manual mode. For some reason, that seems to fix the exposure at 1/60 second at all ISOs when shooting through the opaque IR filter...and produces black images. But take it out of Manual, set it to AUTO ISO, and be prepared for some amazing ... I bought this 2.1MP camera due to its high reputation for capturing digital-IR images. And its rep is JUSTIFIED! I also LOVE its ability to let you set the focal distance manually and watch the effect on the live image as you do. Wonderful. Also, the 2100 does seem to be able to use the full capacity of a 128MB card...despite some claims to the contrary on the web. At least the shots-remaining count seems to indicate that. It will be interesting to see if the card continues storing images after it becomes half full.

This camera was purchased to replace an identical unit which needed repair. My wife and I have used this model quite a few times and are very familiar with how to use it and its capabilities. I actually bought this for her as a Christmas present!

What can I say about the digital photographic world's best kept secret. This camera is so good that for 5 years I have used it instead of my professional digital camera that cost 3 times as much. Why? Because it has a stabilized 30X zoom (10X optical and 3X digital), and has traveled with me on the ocean, the canals of Alsace-Loraine France, been on numerous camping trips in the mountains, and ultimately survived 7 days at Burning Man in the Black Rock Desert of Neveda where it survived wind sandstorms up to 85 mph. (see the photos taken with my C2100 ultra zoom at www.burningmanzeroseven.com . It is still working but I realized Olympus was never going to make another camera this good in the non-professional price range, so I bought this second one as a backup. The seller did a fabulous ... What can I say about the digital photographic world's best kept secret. This camera is so good that for 5 years I have used it instead of my professional digital camera that cost 3 times as much.
