In England during World War II, three young kids are forced to evacuate their home and move in with the eccentric Eglantine Price (Angela Lansbury). At first the youths are unhappy--until they discover that Eglantine is studying to become a witch. Eglantine teaches the children magic, using her new powers to take them on fantastic, fun-filled adventures, all of which they experience on a flying bedframe. But when the neophyte witch decides to use her powers to help the Brits win the war, will she succeed...or will she just create more havoc? Robert Stevenson directs this delightful Disney film that mixes live action and animation splendidly.

    Good Old Fashion Filmwork!!

    When a mail-order apprentice witch (Angela Lansbury) is saddled with three sibling refugees from London during World War II, the outlook is grim. But the kids soon discover her secret and sign on for adventure in the name of England. With the aid of a magical bed, they track down her fraudulent headmaster (David Tomlinson) to find the spell that will aid the Allies. Fascinated that she has actually achieved results with his lessons, he joins forces. The quintet does battle with corrupt booksellers, animated-lion royalty, and, eventually, invading Germans. Songs include Lansbury's Oscar-nominated "The Age of Not Believing." In addition to Tomlinson, the movie shares a fondness for magic at the hands of a good woman, like Mary Poppuns, light romance with an understanding male, and wide-eyed ...

    Fantastic Fun for a Family Occasion

    I used to watch this when I was very young, and I remember being glued to the TV screen. I must have seen this a hundred times, but just as how a classic never dies, this seems to be the case with this family movie as well. When I found out 10 yrs later that it had been digitized and made into a "restored" DVD with extras and extended scenes, I knew I had to get it. Thank you so much for having made this possible for me, it brought me back to my childhood in a way I thought wasn't possible. For pure nostalgia and pure entertainment, this is a must-see! :) Lord Azrael,

    Great show! Can't beat Disney's Ghost Army marching to the rescue of WWII England.

    Great show, I've seen it many times over the years and the marching ghost army of empty suits of armor chasing after the Nazis is still my favorite part. Doesn't get old.

    Instant, magical nostalgia

    This is a classic which did a fantastic job with special effects and animation. It's very engaging and entertaining for children and people of all ages who grew up with Disney films. Even as a person who isn't a fan of musicals, I've always found it entertaining, and the soundtrack is fantastic. Wait, that's an understatement. It's BRILLIANT. Highly recommended. Disney doesn'tvmake content nearly as premium as this anymore.
