Grammy-nominated rapper T.I., whose real name is Tip Harris, gives an inspired performance as the star of ATL. Set in Atlanta, Georgia, and directed by music video veteran Chris Robinson, ATL tells the story of a group of teenagers facing the harsh realities of life. T.I. plays Rashad, a young man making tremendous sacrifices so his little brother, Ant (Evan Ross, son of Diana Ross), can have a better future. Orphaned after their parents died in a car accident, Rashad and Ant work after school as janitors with their uncle George (Mykelti Williamson), who has taken them in to keep them out of foster homes. Every Sunday night, Rashad teams up at the roller-skating rink with his best friends: Esquire (Jackie Long), who has a shot at going to the Ivy League if he can make the right connection; Brooklyn (Albert "Al Be" Daniels), a soft-spoken poet carving out a career in the fast-food industry; and Teddy (Jason Weaver), who works at Eddy's Gold Teeth and provides much of the comic relief. At the rink, they get to be the stars of the show, whirling around, impressing girls, and just being themselves, far away from the daily grind. Rashad soon hooks up with New-New (Lauren London), who refuses to let him see where she lives, harboring a secret that could tear their growing love apart. Meanwhile, Ant starts doing jobs for local drug dealer Marcus (OutKast's Big Boi), attracted to the fancy cars and fast money, and Esquire has some tough choices to make after meeting a high-powered businessman (Keith David). With the critical roller-skating contest right around the corner, things reach a fever pitch, all set to a cranking crunk soundtrack. ATL was inspired by the real-life experiences of music producer Dallas Austin and TLC's Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins; the story is by Antwone Fisher, the subject of Denzel Washington's 2002 directorial debut.

Item arrived on time and as described (ordered Sept. 7th 2024 arrived Sept. 17th, 2024. Good time considering it was going from New Brunswick to Ontario. Case, manual(s), in good condition, disc looks mint condition. Game boots and plays without issue, as advertised. No communication with seller as there was no need, everything went smoothly. In its opening weekend, the film grossed a total of $12.55 million, ranking third in the United States box office, and went on to gross $23.3 million in the US. T.I. has reported in making a sequel to the film around Spring 2007 and will shortly thereafter release his fifth studio album, T.I. vs. T.I.P The most refreshing part of ATL is that each of these kids are good kids. Unfortunately, they are good kids in a bad movie. Director Chris Robinson and writer Tina Gordon Chism don't give ATL direction or a consistent tone, so you feel like ATL too suddenly is bouncing between comedy, drama and love story, instead of meshing all three into a cohesive story. At times, the movie is a buddy comedy with 4 good kids in the middle of typical high school antics. At other times, it can be a dangerous film about the thug life as Ant starts to be blinded by the bling and gets involved in illegal activity. It will be no surprise to anyone who sees ATL that Robinson is a well-known and successful music video director, especially after you have to sit through scene after painful and annoying scene straight from the music video playbook. Robinson mucks up ATL with too many slow motion shots of girls' booties shaking back and forth as they walk towards the guys, and too many musical interludes lacking dialogue as they strive for style over substance. If they added some meaning and context to the movie, that would be great, but they are for show. One or two might have worked just fine, but this many feels like unnecessary filler. Then, we have to deal with an inconsistent cast. T.I. is not the best actor out there. He's not even in the top 60%. I give it a 3 out of 10 Ultimately, "ATL" is the same old teenager angst in a mildly novel package. As in the pastime it depicts, the outfits on the players may be flashy, but they're still just going around in circles.

ATL not the best movie
I originally watched ATL because I was told that I would like it. I didn't care for the movie's typical happy ending. Not realistic based on how the movie was leading up right before the end. I did like watching the girlfriend's father act. I remember him from more well known movies. I didn't see how any of the other actors in the movie saw the girlfriend's father as a sell out just because he wants to own the things that the rich can afford and doesn't want her daughter to hang out in spots where there might be gangs and drug dealers. It's understandable that a father would want to be protective of his daughter. I also didn't see why Rashad would be upset with his girlfriend for not telling him that she was from a wealthy family and lived in a mansion. She didn't lie to him. She just ... What's Up With The Low Ratings?!?!?
This was a great movie! It is not like a lot of black films you see . There is very mild violence, no sex (which is rare in a black film), and I think the movie is pretty classy. I like TI's character and how he looks out for his brother and the love he has for New-New. I also like the soundtrack. I love this movie. I even let my 8 year old daughter watch it.

ATL is not the usual gangter rapper movie story plot. It's story is based around a group of teenagers all going through daily struggles adolescents face and the problems young men face when "coming of age". I love how funny, yet true to life the story is presented. It has many great lessons for one to consider about their own life. It teaches us not to judge people just because of their financial status and appearance. It also adresses the fact that "easy money" is good for a while, but the long term effects and risks of that "easy money" are long lasting and NOT worth ruining your life and dreams over.ATL is not the usual gangter rapper movie story plot.
