Please Remake
The book was wonderful. The imagery, the detail, the intensity was very evident. Prior to reading the book, I didn't think it would hold my interest simply based on the title, but to my surprise, it captivated me. The movie, however was horrible. It was very choppy and it missed the mark completely. I don't think the director took the time to read the book, so that they could capture all of the important moments. Perhaps was an issue in the making of the film, but if that were the case, they should have made it longer which would have made it worthwhile. Another thing that made this a bad movie was the fact that a character was added that didn't need to be added. All the actors in the movie except for Maya Angelou and the two ladies who played the twin aunts, need to be re-casted. They didn't reflect the true characters from the book. Between lost accents and simply poor acting, this movie didn't stand a chance. I'm glad I had the opportunity to watch it, but it's definitely not one for the collection. Now I know why I had a hard time finding it elsewhere.

I enjoyed it.
I decided to buy this movie because I have watched it 2 or 3 times on t.v., and have enjoyed it every time. I enjoy how each woman has a different life story, and how each story creates a quilt block. Each block comes together to make a beautiful quilt. I think there is a good lesson about forgiveness, life, the differences in people (that when joined together make something beautiful no matter how different they are), and finding one's self. I think this movie is wonderful to sit and watch on a rainy day.I decided to buy this movie because I have watched it 2 or 3 times on t.v., and have enjoyed it every time. The quilt is made from themes of life, events, romance, and anything that is or once was very important to the person actually doing the quilting. It's a story of the lives of many. A quilt is made from the love, trial and tribulations of life, weddings, births, sorrows, happy times. They tell a story in each square. It't not just about making a blanket, but rather it tells of the crossroads that the women in this film come to that was a life altering experience. Life is like a quilt. Every stitch is sewn with love and conviction. It' stories are passed down from generation to generation in hopes that the stories will touch those who it is passed down to. It's about learning from your own mistakes and taking advice from the old ones and applying them to your own life in hopes of fulfillment. Highly recommended and a much treasured movie in my heart. Winona Ryder and Jared Leto are awesome in this movie. Althought Jared has only a moment in this film, his part is very stereotypical of today. A moment of passion can change everything.

It is hard to go wrong with a cast this strong and this movie doesn't let the viewer down. Ellen Burstyn (Hy) and Anne Bancroft (Glady Jo) are fantastic as rather free thinking, older sisters who are always sparring while loving each other and Burstyn's granddaughter, Finn, played by Winona Ryder. Finn is a graduate student trying to finish her thesis while spending time at the home of her grandmother and great aunt. There she also spends time away from her fiance, Sam played by Dermot Mulroney, wondering if she is making the right decision to marry. Each day the quilting circle meets to complete Finn's wedding quilt and Finn has a chance to share her fears with individual members while they share their stories of loves lost and lives found. This movie is one larger ... It is hard to go wrong with a cast this strong and this movie doesn't let the viewer down. The photography is very good in allowing flashbacks to flow in and out of the present day of the movie and uphold the mood of the person telling the story. The movie is based on a book that I have read and stays pretty true to it, using only a small amount license to allow the movie move in ways it couldn't if filmed exactly as written. The only thing I did't like about the movie was the introduction of Finn's mother and father. Some how, though I think they are mentioned earlier, when Finn's mother shows up I felt I should have known more about her already. She was, at first, somewhat out of place. Later, her appearance and personality fit into the story quite well. Other cast members include Jean Simmons, Rip Torn, Claire Danes, Kate Capshaw, Alfre Woodard, Jared Leto, Adam Baldwin, Kate Nelligan and the wonderful poet, Maya Angelou. Though I know several men who have enjoyed this movie with their wives, it is definitely directed towards women. I encourage women, young and old, to watch it with their best friends, daughters, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, cousins, etc. You'll find you have a lot to talk about afterwards.

One of my TOP favorite movies!
I don’t even know how to describe this movie! It’s one of the greats that’s definitely not gotten the exposure it should have! You won’t be disappointed with this film. It’s good on so many levels.
