Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. Digitally remastered edition of the second studio album by Metallica, originally released in 1984. The album was recorded in three weeks with producer Flemming Rasmussen at the Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark. The artwork, based on a concept by the band, depicts an electric chair in the midst of a thunderstorm. The title was taken from a passage in Stephen King's novel The Stand. Although rooted in the thrash metal genre, the album showcased the band's musical maturity and lyrical sophistication. This was partly because bassist Cliff Burton introduced the basics of music theory to the rest of the band and had more input in the songwriting. Instead of relying strictly on fast tempos as on Kill 'Em All, Metallica broadened its approach by employing acoustic guitars, extended instrumentals, and more complex harmonies.

    Greatest Thrash Metal album of All Time

    I first heard this album when I was 9 years old. That was 20 years ago and in that time I have owned 6 different copies of this album on cd. To finally find it on vinyl and brand new (thanks to the blackened records reissue) is amazing! I highly recommend this album to any fan of MetallicA or metal in general, a classic from the golden age of MetallicA

    Best reissue in a long, long time.

    This 2016 Blackened remaster/reissue is the closest thing you are going to get to one of the earlier pressings that have sky rocketed in value. Really, it’s a no brainer for very little cash. It’s sounds so close to my Megaforce pressing, it’s splitting hairs to try to explain the differences.

    Heavy duty pressing, and sounds phenomenal!

    Great album! Metallica's prime years in my opinion. Cliff Burton was the best bassist Metallica has ever had. This is one of the greatest thrash albums ever, and I highly recommend!!!

    Who knew the original could get better!!!

    I didn’t think you could get much out of a “metal” record on 180g vs standard...I was wrong! I have the original and love it. But this pressing is outstanding in so many ways. It’s a whole new experience with this remaster and pressing. Get it, you won’t be disappointed.

    Cannot even begin to describe how incredible this album is. If you can't buy it, stream it and listen. I promise that you will keep coming back for more.
