With a $71 million budget and mind-blowing special effects, INDEPENDENCE DAY is a grand, high-tech throwback to such films of the 1950s as THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL and WAR OF THE WORLDS. Here, aliens, in numerous gargantuan spaceships, arrive without warning and hover over the world's most important cities, creating global panic. The nasty visitors use death rays to blow New York, Washington D.C, and Los Angeles to smithereens. A handful of plucky Americans, including the Clinton-esque President (Bill Pullman), a gung-ho fighter pilot (Will Smith) and a computer geek named David (Jeff Goldblum), attempt to devise a strategy against the invaders.On July 4th, their risky plan is put into effect, as dozens of fighter pilots (including the President) wage an assault on the spaceships. However, their success (and the fate of the world) depends on David, who is attempting to disarm the aliens's mothership.

They don't make them like this anymore!
You can't really say anything bad about this movie...solid well rounded characters, cast does a phenomenal job, pervasive and impressive special effects...This movie still holds the record for most scale miniatures used in a single film...AND IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE. Us intelligent humans with decent eyesight can tell the difference between a cheesy generic CGI explosion and the real explosions seen in Independence Day!! When the Empire state building and others explode it is AMAZING! 15 years later the movie still looks better than most movies do today. Every where you want the movie to go it goes. Wanna see the inside of the mother ship and the millions of ground troopers preparing to deploy to the surface of Earth? You got it. 3 elements completely make the movie rise above all ... So memorable. These scenes made his career. 3) Area 51 - Brent Spiner as the mad scientist and the botched dissection: "What is it you want us to do?" to which the alien replies "DIE". Again, extremely well done and memorable. hands down a bonified classic. Can't wait for the sequels!!

Absolutely Fantastic!
Great movie if you believe that we are not alone in the universe. Although I believe those who are out there are not as hostile as portrayed in this movie. But a great movie none the less another must have in your collection of classics. This truly is one, I saw Independence Day 2 and was okay with it but number one is better, although once again, I would add the second one to my first classic.

Very entertaining. Great acting.
Independence Day 1 is very entertaining. Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum are great together. Very funny. I wasn't that crazy about Resurgence. It was ok. The only reason I ordered it was because Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch and Bill Pullman was in it. All together, I am satisfied with my purchase. Good price.

ID4: Well worth the bluray edition!
I wanted this movie for years, so glad I waited for Blu-ray. DVD doesn't do this film justice, Blu-ray blows it's doors off for picture and sound!
